Billie Eilish Opens Up About Feeling 'Attracted' to Women but 'Intimidated' by Their 'Beauty' and 'Presence'

The pop star spoke candidly about her own gender identity and attraction to women in Variety’s ‘Woman Power’ issue

Billie Eilish opens up about her experience with femininity after years of scrutinizing her body and sexuality.

The superstar, 21, was candid in a new interview with DiversityThe Power of Women issue about her perception of her own femininity and attraction to women.

Eilish, who for years almost exclusively wore baggy clothes that hid her figure, told the magazine that she struggles with her appearance and identity because she “never felt desirable.”

“I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest with you. I never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine,” Eilish revealed. “I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl.”

The “Bad Guy” singer clarified her preferred pronouns, adding, “I identify as ‘she/her’ and things like that, but I’ve never felt like a girl.”

The Grammy winner explained that because she had long had complicated feelings about her own femininity, it led to her feeling like other women didn’t like her. “I never really felt like I could relate to girls very well,” she said.

Although Eilish struggles with the assumption, she has admitted that she is “attracted” to other women. “I love it [women] so much. I love them as people. I am attracted to people. I’m really attracted to them,” she said.

“I have deep connections with the women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life,” the singer-songwriter continued. “I am physically attracted to them. But I’m also very intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”

Because Eilish has faced a lot of scrutiny around topics like her sexuality and relationship history, which she said Diversity was “strange and unsettling”, she had been relatively reticent about her personal life in the past.
