Blake Lively details how important work-life balance was to her and Ryan Reynolds early in their relationship.
36 year old Gossip girl alum discovered on the Substack show Amber Tamblyn Next Adoper Party tonightthat she and her current husband made an early pact that they would prioritize their relationship over work.
When Ryan and I got together, we made a rule that we didn’t work at the same time, Lively said. “So we can always prioritize our personal lives.”
“It takes a lot of hard work when we’re not,” Lively added. “Just like financial planning and maintaining it – it takes balance.”

As for how the duo approaches parenting on top of their work schedules, Reynolds told PEOPLE back in October about how he and Lively stress the importance of “self-awareness” for their four children.
“I think it’s more about talking to them about everything,” the actor said. “It’s honest when I say that I’m very interested in their days and how things are going.”
“For me, the best time of the day is to walk them to school and walk them back,” he added. “I think as parents we are much better equipped to deal with the hardships of childhood through our children now than when I was a child. It’s just completely different now. People are much more self-aware. And that is what we pay most attention to in our children’s self-awareness. Don’t be happy, don’t be anything, just be self-aware and welcome everyone inside.”
