Former NFL Player Richard Sherman Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

Richard Sherman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The former NFL player, 35, was arrested in King County, Wash., on Saturday morning, according to arrest records seen by PEOPLE.

The Washington State Patrol pulled over Sherman around 2 a.m. local time in Bellevue for going 79 mph in a 60 mph zone, CNN reported, citing a probable cause affidavit.

The athlete told the authorities that he drank two margaritas when they asked him about his alcohol consumption, and agreed to a voluntary test, according to the document, published on the portal. It also said Sherman’s eyes were “bloody and watery” and that he smelled “of intoxicants,” according to the Associated Press.

A representative of Sherman, as well as a representative of the Washington State Patrol, did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. It was also not immediately clear whether Sherman had obtained legal representation.
