Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani Escorted by the Thunderbirds at 2024 Super Bowl

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani needed special forces to knock them out of the Super Bowl.

The “God’s Country” musician, 47, and his No Doubt rocker wife, 54, debuted their new duet “Purple Irises” live during the Super Bowl LVIII TikTok Tailgate event in Las Vegas and clearly had some help leaving the game.

On Sunday night, Shelton posted a photo of himself with his wife X (formerly known as Twitter) surrounded by uniformed members of the US Air Force Thunderbirds.

“That time THE THUNDERBIRDS ran the insurance to bail us out of the SuperBowl,” the country singer wrote on the platform. “You can’t make this up. Thanks everyone!!!! #SuperBowlLVIII.”

For their performance on Sunday, Shelton joined Stefani with his guitar as they sang to a large live audience at the tailgate event. The “Ol’ Red” artist wore a simple black monochrome look, while the “Luxurious” musician embraced a Wild West look. Stefani wore a black and white look with light pink satin open locks – and her platinum blonde hair was seen in a high ponytail.

After she and her husband debuted their new song, the Grammy winner performed several of her classics, including “I’m Just a Girl” and “Hollaback Girl” — with the crowd’s help.

Just two days before performing together, the pair released a vulnerable song, which appears to be a tribute to their relationship.

The song says, “But if someone comes along and tries / To love you like I do / I don’t know what I’d do / I don’t want to lose you,” she sings, later adding, “No, never known love like this. Now we’re picking / Purple irises.”

Shelton and Stefani have teamed up on tracks in the past. They joined forces for the country collaborations “Nobody But You” and “Happy Anywhere,” both of which went to No. 1, as well as the holiday hit “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” in 2017. “It changed my life… when I [started dating] Blake, that’s when I felt at home, like, ‘Oh, this one where I should be, with that guy,” Stefani told PEOPLE last year about her relationship with Shelton. The three-time Grammy winner has special musical plans this spring, as she prepares to reunite her band No Doubt at Coachella,

“It just happened so fast, and that’s my favorite thing that happened.
