Bobby Flay Says Daughter Sophie 'Threatens' to Move Back Home but 'We’re Definitely Not Doing That'

Bobby Flay loves his daughter Sophie — but he doesn’t want to be her roommate.

While appearing in the first episode Everything on the table with Katie Lee Biegel podcast on Aug. 8, the celebrity chef, 59, said Sophie, 28, often jokes that she’s going back to him “just to see” how he reacts.

Flay told host Katie Lee Biegel about how he’s been remodeling his New York apartment. And part of the renovation is turning his daughter’s old bedroom into a “much bigger suite.” (Sophie lives in Los Angeles where she works as a reporter for ABC7.)

“She thinks it’s still her room, but she’s wrong,” laughed The Defeated Bobby Flay star.

Lee Biegel questioned his comment, saying, “Well, what if it’s not her room? You have a lot of rooms in that apartment.”

He replied, “It’s going to be another… I don’t know. I was just thinking that at 28, he has to, like, leave his bedroom. Don’t you think?”

Lee Biegel said she hopes her daughter, Iris, 3, will still want her own bedroom when she’s that age.

“Sophie always threatens to come back to me just to see how I’ll react,” Flay said nonchalantly. “We don’t do that. I mean, no, no, no, no. No, we definitely don’t.”

“But, you know, she’s obviously always welcome,” added the loving father.

The father-daughter duo share a close relationship. They recently visited Paris together for the 2024 Summer Olympics. During the trip, Sophie posted photos on Instagram of her and her father dressed up for a trip to the iconic Louvre.

Back in May, the chef revealed to PEOPLE that he would take his daughter to a sporting event. “They invited me to Paris and Sophie said, ‘Yes, I’m your plus one,'” he said. “She worked the Olympics. When she was an intern at USC, she worked for NBC, so she went to South Korea and she went to Rio. She considers herself my Olympic expert.”

Flay isn’t the only celebrity chef who has considered moving his grown child home.

Gordon Ramsay’s wife, Tana Ramsay, recently revealed that her four older children are back after their house was remodeled. “By the time we finished the project and came back three weeks ago, everyone has a bedroom again,” Tana told za Postcards from the middle ages. “They’ve all moved home. Holly lives in Nottingham but always comes back to London and apparently wants a bedroom with her boyfriend [swimmer Adam Peaty].”
