Bonnie Wright Shares Her Hopes 'as a Fan' for the Harry Potter TV Series — and Whether She'd Want to Be in It (Exclusive)

Bonnie Wright has high hopes for the upcoming Harry Potter TV series.

While speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the Hogwarts Homecoming Celebration in New York City, Harry Potter alum, 33, opened up about how she would like JK Rowling’s novels to be honored in HBO’s highly anticipated television adaptation of the beloved story.

“My biggest hope as a fan of the books is to be able to include more of the world we know and love,” said the actress, who famously portrayed Ginny Weasley. “With TV shows you have hours unlike movies.”

“I’m hoping as a fan that I get to see some of the parts in the books that just didn’t make it into our movies because they had to be shorter,” she continued, sharing with him how “excited” she was to see a new take on the wizarding world.”

“All the characters, you can interpret them in a billion different ways, so I’m excited to see how they’re interpreted,” added Wright.

When asked if she would like to play Ginny again in the new series, the actress revealed that she is keeping her options open.

“Never say never, never say no,” she shrugged. “I would be [open]I’m ready.”

On Sunday 01.09. Harry Potter fans were in for a treat when Wright made a surprise appearance at the first Hogwarts back-to-back celebration. Long-time enthusiasts gathered at the main terminal in New York for the ceremonial departure of the Hogwarts Express.

In addition to the send-off, fans participated in special photo opportunities, magic performances and other interactive experiences.

“Being able to return to the magical world of Harry Potter and be reunited with the biggest fans has been an absolute treat,” Wright said in a press release shared with PEOPLE. “What I love about Homecoming is witnessing the shared love this community has for Harry Potter!”

Following reports in early April 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed its plans for an all-new Harry Potter series based on the best-selling novels of the same name during a presentation to investors and the press in April 2023.

“We are thrilled to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” said Casey Bloys, president and chief executive officer of HBO & Max Content, in a press release.

The series marks the most recent screen adaptation Harry Potterwhich was first published in 1997 with the book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In addition to the popular eight-film franchise starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, a spinoff prequel titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them starring Eddie Redmayne was released in 2016, followed by two sequels, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) and Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets (2022).
