A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has died and another is fighting for his life after a car “hit a curb and overturned” during a police chase.

The teenager was a passenger in a Ford Fiesta that crashed in front of the Central Middlesex Hospital in London at around 5.25am on Monday.

Another passenger in the car is also fighting for his life after the crash, described by police as being in a “critical condition”.

The driver of the Fiesta, who was being chased by a marked police car, was not seriously injured.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), the police watchdog, launched an investigation into the accident.

The Directorate for Professional Standards of the Met was also informed.

Fire engines and police vehicles rushed to the scene to help extricate the men from the wrecked engine and take them to hospital.

The IOPC released a statement following the fatal crash, which said: “We were notified by the Met Office shortly after the collision and IOPC investigators attended the scene and are in police post-incident proceedings to begin gathering information.

“We heard that a Ford Fiesta, with three male passengers, was being chased by the driver of a marked police vehicle before it hit a curb and overturned.”

A cordon has been put in place along Park Royal Road between Asda and Central Middlesex Hospital and several London bus services have been diverted.

Officers are still investigating the incident and conducting inquiries.

The IOPC added: “Initial accounts are being given by the officers involved and we have started collecting CCTV footage and relevant documents.

“Our investigation is in its early stages.”

“Our thoughts are with the family of the 17-year-old who died and all those affected by this incident.”

It is unclear why the men were being chased by police officers.

A spokesman for the Met Police also released a statement on the fatal crash, telling The Sun: “At around 5.25am on Monday, October 7, a car being pursued by police crashed in Park Royal Road, W3 outside Central Middlesex Hospital.

“London Ambulance and London Air Ambulance attended.

“Three men – all passengers in the car – were taken to hospital for treatment.

“One of those men, 17 years old, died later in the hospital.

“The Met’s Professional Standards Authority has been informed.”
