Howard Stern almost had a hand in it A star is bornaccording to director Bradley Cooper.
“Have we ever talked about how I asked you A star is born?” Cooper asked his longtime friend in the episode The Howard Stern Show published on Monday.
“I never told anybody because I felt bad for the guy who got the part,” Stern said, referring to Sam Elliott, who the host also called “fantastic.”
In its Oscar-winning 2018 remake A star is born starring Lady Gaga, Cooper, 48, played singer Jackson “Jack” Maine, while Elliott played the character’s half-brother and manager Bobby.

The Maestro Helmer revealed to listeners that after approaching Stern, 69, to play Bobby, the two gave the idea serious thought — including having Stern shave his head.
On her show, the radio personality recalled thinking, “‘Wow, he must think I look a lot better… They’re going to say, ‘What the f—, what, this movie is going to be like that Gemini?’ I’m Danny DeVito and he’s Arnold Schwarzenegger or something? What the hell is going on here?”
Stern continued, “I said, ‘I’m going to go all in.’ I’m going to shave my head, I’m going to change my whole look.’ I was really toying with that idea.”

Stern also joked that his performance would be worthy of an award. “It would be great, me at the Oscars,” he added. “Can you imagine? We might do that one day!”
Cooper responded, “I think it’s going to happen. I just have to think of the right thing to say yes to you.”
