Brajesh Pathak began his political career while still in college, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in legislative law from Lucknow University in Uttar Pradesh. In 1990, he participated in the student political elections and won, and was accordingly appointed as the Chancellor of Lucknow University. In 2004, he became a Member of Parliament for the Popular Socialist Party (BSP). During this period, he was responsible for organizing numerous political events in Uttar Pradesh. In 2004, he was elected to BSP’s Lok Sabha seat from Unnao. In 2008, he was elected to the House of Federation as a candidate of the People’s Party and served as deputy leader of the party’s upper house. He later resigned as a member of the organization in 2009. His tenure in the Lok Sabha ended in 2014, and in August 2016, Brajesh joined the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other prominent party members. In 2017, he contested the Uttar Pradesh Assembly from Lucknow Central constituency as a BJP candidate, defeating his main rival Ravidas Mehrotra from the Samajwadi Party by 39,512 votes. He was initially appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Law and Justice in 2017, but following the expansion of Yogi Adityanath’s ministry, he was promoted to Cabinet Secretary for Law and Justice in 2019.
