Britney Spears’ 2011 Song ‘Selfish’ Overtakes Justin Timberlake’s New Single of Same Name on iTunes Charts

Justin Timberlake’s new single may be called “Selfish,” but it still has to share the charts.

Britney Spears’ 2011 song “Selfish” has overtaken Timberlake’s new lead single of the same name on iTunes after pressure from Spears fans to support the 13-year-old Femme fatale cut out.

Following the release of Timberlake’s new single and music video on Thursday, Spears fans rallied around her song of the same name on social media, ultimately helping it to the top spot on Friday’s iTunes chart.

As of Saturday morning, the song sits at No. 2 on the iTunes Top Songs digital download chart, with Timberlake’s “Selfish” trailing at No. 4.

Confronting “Selfish” comes as “Selfish by Britney Spears” trended on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. Some Spears fans even encouraged radio stations to play the decade-old bonus track.

And it’s not just “Selfish” that has returned to the charts for Spears, 42. The music videos for Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again” and “I’m a Slave 4 U” also hold the top two spots on iTunes’ music video charts , with Timberlake’s new visual trailing at No. 3.

Timberlake’s “Selfish” remains in the Top 50 on US Spotify. His place on Board The Hot 100 will be determined when the list is released on Tuesday.

Timberlake also teased the “introspective and “incredibly honest” songs on the new album, some of which he’ll take with him on tour starting in April. His Forget Tomorrow world tour kicks off in Vancouver on April 29 and will visit several cities in North America before stopping in July in Lexington, KY.

The pop star also revealed to Lowe that he recorded 100 songs for his first album in six years, adding that he “worked on this album for a long time” and had to narrow it down to just 18 tracks.

“I think probably every artist says that, but it’s my best work,” Timberlake said, adding that it includes “moments that are incredibly honest, but also, there’s a lot of fucking fun on this album.”
