In her memoir, Spears describes the trials she faced in her career and during her conservatorship. She also talks about motherhood and her past relationships, most notably with ex Justin Timberlake.
Spears spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about why it was important for her to share her story before the memoir’s release.
“For the past 15 years or even at the beginning of my career, I sat while people talked about me and told my story for me,” she said last month. “After I got out of conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without repercussions from the people who were in charge of my life.”
Spears added, “It’s finally time for me to raise my voice and speak up, and my fans deserve to hear it directly from me,” she says. “No more conspiracies, no more lies – only I own my past, present and future.”
