Britney Spears Says Partying with Paris Hilton & Lindsay Lohan Wasn’t ‘as Wild’ as Portrayed, Calls Adderall ‘Drug of Choice’

Britney Spears looks back on her partying phase. The “Hold Me Closer” singer, 41, became friends with Paris Hilton around the time her and ex-husband Kevin Federline’s marriage began to fall apart in 2006, she writes in her new memoir. The woman in me that her dates with the heiress around this time were actually relatively tame.

“It was never as wild as the media made it out to be,” she writes in the book.

Spears writes in the book that she “never had a drinking problem” and that hard drugs were not attractive to her. The pop singer’s “drug of choice,” she reveals, was the ADHD drug Adderall, which “got me high, yes, but what I found much more appealing was that it gave me a few hours to feel less depressed.”

Hilton, for her part, recounted the events that led to the iconic paparazzi shot of Spears and actress Lindsay Lohan in an episode of her podcast. This is Parisand said that she and Spears were at a friend’s party at the Beverly Hills Hotel and decided to go home.

As they walked to the car, Lohan – who was in the middle of some “drama” with Hilton – walked over.

“Suddenly I looked and she was in my car. We didn’t get along, so I was polite,” Hilton recalled. “It was really hard to even get out of there, because I couldn’t see with all the cameras.”

Meanwhile, in a recent chat with PEOPLE, Hilton praised Spears “for telling her story” in her new book, saying she was “so proud” of the singer.

“I know how hard it can be to do a memoir because you have to really dive in and think about so many moments in your life that I’m sure you don’t even want to think about,” she said. “But it really is such a healing experience and writing my book [Paris: The Memoir] changed my life in so many ways. So I really hope she feels the same way about this. I’m just proud of what a strong woman she is.”

Spears’ debut memoir — which is available for pre-order now — will be published on October 24 via Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

In an email interview with PEOPLE, Spears said she was happy to reclaim her own story.

“For the past 15 years or even at the beginning of my career, I sat while people talked about me and told my story for me,” she says. “After I got out of conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without repercussions from the people who were in charge of my life.”
