  • Bunnie Xo shared her recent episode Stupid blonde podcast that she was misdiagnosed with an aneurysm, calling it a “death scare”
  • The model, whose mother survived a ruptured aneurysm, called it “one of her biggest fears”
  • She said that the wrong diagnosis changed her perception of life

Model and podcaster Bunnie Xo shared a recent and devastating health scare — or as she called it, a “death scare.”

In her episode from August 8 Stupid blonde podcast, the 44-year-old shared that she struggled with headaches, which prompted her to seek medical attention.

“I noticed that it was kind of, like, after I would eat certain foods. I don’t know if there was a lot of salt or something because I don’t eat badly.”

She added: “I’m literally living a very fucking boring life and diet because I’m trying so hard to wrap my head around all the … drug trauma I’ve done to my body and the alcohol trauma I’ve done to my body growing.”

Both Bunnie and her husband, country star Jelly Roll, have been open about their recovery journeys.

Bunnie (real name: Alyssa DeFord) said she had always been afraid of an aneurysm. “Mom had an aneurysm and it burst. And she almost died.”

As the Mayo Clinic explains, an aneurysm is “a bulge or balloon in a blood vessel in the brain. An aneurysm often looks like a berry hanging from its stalk.”

The clinic adds, “a ruptured aneurysm is a very serious condition, which usually causes a severe headache.”

“I’ve had head MRIs since I was a teenager,” Bunnie shared, adding that when a friend sent her a TikTok about an aneurysm, “my body reacted like crazy to that TikTok.”

“Maybe I accidentally manifested it because I had a panic attack,” she said, adding that she went to her doctor at 2 a.m. to get an MRI to find the source of her headaches.

But the results came in and she was told, “They think they may have found an aneurysm in your carotid artery.”

Bunnie called it “one of my biggest fears coming true.”

“I’m at a higher percentage of ruptures because my mom had one,” she said, and the National Institutes of Health confirms that “a family history of aneurysm rupture indicates a higher risk of rupture for aneurysms found in family members.”

“So many things went through my mind. And immediately I fell on my knees and began to pray. I took out my eyes. I cried so much that I stretched a muscle in my neck,” she said. “I cried for three days.”

“And I can’t sleep. I didn’t sleep. I’m sweating a lot. I have diarrhea. I’m just, like, so freaked out and stressed out,” she said, sharing that she went in for another scan.

This time, the results, she said, were “a two-millimeter aneurysm in your carotid artery,” which is a pair of arteries located on either side of the neck.

Bunnie said she went to a neurologist and that’s when she found out it wasn’t actually an aneurysm.

“He said, ‘I wish you had an aneurysm so I could cure your headaches.’ And I just said, ‘Hey, buddy. Slow down.’ I said, ‘I’m fine.’ ”

She also consulted a vascular surgeon who said, “You’re fine.”

Bunnie Xo recalls the first time she laid eyes on husband Jelly Roll: ‘What is this man?’

Bunnie was told, “I release you.” He said, ‘That’s a blood vessel that matches up on the other side of your carotid artery at the other end.’ And he said, ‘This was just one of those things where I can deliver good news.’ He said, ‘If you want to go play football, you can’. ”

“So that’s how it’s been for the last, you know, eight days of my life, folks. And I just want to tell you that it made me appreciate life so much. And, like, I know it sounds dramatic, but … it really made me realize that, like, none of this s— f—ing matters, man.”

“Family and the people you love and the people you surround yourself with every day is all that fucking matters, man,” she said, adding, “I’ve been so close to my husband these past few days. ”
