Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heugan have revealed their reactions as Outlander draws to a close after eight seasons.
The stars appeared as guests on Tuesday’s Good Morning America to discuss the upcoming seventh season of the historical drama, which premieres June 16.

Sharing her thoughts on the series’ ending, Caitríona said: “It’s going to be a bittersweet moment. I think everything has to come to an end, but it’s going to be really hard to say goodbye to the series. this story.”
Sam has revealed a souvenir he will be bringing with him from the set of the series after the end of the eighth season. “I’ll definitely keep it, I mean I love all of Jamie’s guns, but I love his boots,” he said. “His shoes make me feel like I’m Jamie when I wear them.”

Filming for the eighth and final season will begin in a few months, with Caitríona behind the camera to direct the episode.
Caitriona says the final season’s finale will be “mixed bittersweet”
Discussing directing her co-stars in the upcoming season, the Irish actress said she’s “really excited”. “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be on the show. We’ve been on the show for almost ten years so it seemed like the perfect place to try something new.
“I’ve done a bit of the second unit this season and I’ve been directed by Sophie [Skelton] and John Bell, but not this man yet,” she said, pointing at her colleague.

Sam joked, “You know, I do everything in one go,” causing the entire studio to laugh.
Caitríona and Sam began working on the series in 2013, starting filming in October before the first episode premiered in August next year.
Talking about the film’s impact on her life while appearing on the Irish talk show, Late ProgramCaitríona said, “It changed my life. I started acting very late. I changed careers at 30, usually the age where people say, ‘You failed, that’s it’, and It has given me everything.It has opened up so many things for me.

“This job is exciting. I’ve been working with the same people for ten years, it’s my company, it’s my team. And this character, she’s incredible.
“I had to do a lot of work and I was very burdened as an actress because of who she was,” she added.

The new series consists of 16 episodes and will be split into two parts with the premiere of the first half on June 16 and the second half in 2024.
The story will begin with the shocking events of season six, in which Claire is on trial for the murder of Malva Christie, while Jamie is on her way to save her with the help of Young Ian and John Quincy Myers after she was rescued from Richard Brown and his men.
