A source tells PEOPLE exclusively that the actress, 51, is thrilled to be part of a family of four with her husband Benji Madden and their two children — daughter Raddix, born in December 2019, and son Cardinal, whose birth was announced Friday.
“They always hoped for another child, because they love being parents,” the insider said of Diaz and rocker Good Charlotte, 45.
“For years, Cameron wanted to become a mom,” they add. “She gets very emotional when she talks about the long road to motherhood. She feels more than happy to have two children now.”

Diaz and Madden revealed the birth of their baby son in a post shared on Instagram earlier this week.
“We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our son, Cardinal Madden❤️🙏. He is awesome and we are all so happy he is here!” read the title of the post. “For the safety and privacy of the kids, we won’t post pictures – but he’s really cute ☺️.”
“We feel so blessed and grateful🍀. Sending lots of love from our family to yours 🙏❤️. Best wishes and have a great day!! 🤘⚡️,” the couple continued.
Along with their caption, Diaz and Madden shared an abstract drawing that included the words, “A birdie whispered to me.”

A day after sharing their exciting baby news, Diaz and Madden stepped out at Rob Lowe’s 60th birthday party on Saturday night.
For the event, Diaz wore a black jacket over a black top, while Madden wore a black denim jacket and black baseball cap.
A source tells PEOPLE that the couple’s rare night out was fun, though they usually prefer more casual moments.
“They like to spend time at home. They prefer to cook and visit friends instead of going out,” an insider told PEOPLE. “And they love just hanging out with their kids. They’re great parents.”
