Camila Cabello Reveals Why She Won’t Get Back Together with Shawn Mendes Again

When it comes to getting back together with an ex, Camila Cabello can be “in it” under the right circumstances.

The pop star, 27, appeared in the latest episode Call her dad and spoke frankly about her thoughts on reconciliation with her ex. Not only did Cabello say on the podcast that her “impulsive” qualities led her to go back to ex-boyfriends, but she also opened up about a brief reunion with Shawn Mendes in the spring of 2023, two years after they ended their romance in 2021.

“Me, personally, I think it’s familiar, I’m a fan,” the “Havana” singer said in a podcast about reconciling with ex-lovers, explaining that she finds it “helpful.”

“I’m kind of impulsive in that way, I would say,” Cabello said. “If I feel it, I say it and I’m not very good at not doing it. Because the worst place to live is my mind, and then I’m like Ryan Gosling Notebook build a house for this person. I’d rather say that and see what happens, then wake up the next day and find out it’s pretty well documented.”

“I decided to go that route,” the former Fifth Harmony member continued, alluding to how she and Mendes got back together for a period last year, after their relationship lasted from 2019 to November 2021. “It’s what is. It was a great route, it was fun. It was a fun moment.”

Cabello also discussed why she and the “Mercy” singer-songwriter decided to break up the second time around. “It’s just like you don’t feel right, I don’t feel good,” she said. “And I think, luckily, I was at a place in my life where it took me less time to figure it out. It took less time for both of us to say, ‘This doesn’t look good and we don’t need to work so hard to make it work. All is well.'”

The “Shameless” singer added: “I’ll always take care of him and I’ll love him. He’s such a good person and I’m happy because some people have exes that are awful and he’s not. He’s a really sweet, good person.”

The two musicians first sparked rumors that they had reconciled when they were spotted together at Coachella in April of last year.

Shortly after the event, a source told PEOPLE that the hitmakers had actually been “friends for a few months” before the music festival

Cabello and Mendes first called it quits in November 2021 after dating for two years.

The former couple and “Señorita” co-stars, who originally met as tour buddies years before falling in love, shared a joint statement on social media about their decision. “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for each other as people is stronger than ever ❤️,” the statement read. “We started our relationship as best friends and we will be best friends.”

“We so appreciate your support from the beginning and going forward ❤️❤️❤️ Camila and Shawn,” the statement concluded.
