Profession

She started her career in December 2013 with the National Health Service in Nottingham, UK, as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist. She worked there for almost two years before being appointed by the British Army to the OC PCRF (Policy and Commanding Charge Regulations Function) in Blandford, UK. During her tenure as OC, she helped rehabilitate 2,400 people. After working there for almost two years, she was commissioned as a physiotherapist by the British Army in July 2018 (during the United Nations Operation in South Sudan). She subsequently began work as a Clinical Training Officer/Physiotherapist and was deployed to Preston, England, with the British Army. While working in the British Army, she organized combat training for Combat Medical Technicians (CMT). She also organized training for the British Medical Corps as a clinical training officer. During the Antarctic scientific expedition training, she spent about two months dragging two large tires to train herself to carry heavy sleds during the 2021 Antarctic scientific expedition. 40 days later, she completed her solo Antarctic scientific expedition on January 3, 2022. She traveled 700 miles (1,127 kilometers) carrying her sled and equipment. The average temperature recorded there is -50 degrees Celsius, with wind speeds around 60 miles per hour. Chandi shared her adventure through a 40-day blog. She wrote in her blog,

Anything ambitious can feel out of reach at first, but every bit of training I complete gets me closer to my goal. My training expeditions to Greenland and Norway helped prepare me and my goal has now been achieved. It does feel colder when I’m at a higher altitude. I haven’t seen anyone here anymore and now I’m 15 nautical miles from the South Pole. I can’t believe I’m almost there. “

Another of her blog posts says,

I arrived at the South Pole where it was snowing. Feeling a lot of emotions right now. Three years ago I knew nothing about the polar world, and now to finally be here feels so surreal. It’s been tough getting here and I want to thank everyone for their support. This adventure was always bigger than me. I want to encourage people to push their boundaries and believe in themselves, and I want you to be able to do that without being labeled a rebel. I have been told “no” on many occasions and told to ‘just do normal things’ but we create our own normalcy. “

On her blog, she even shares a live tracking map of her adventures. On the 40th day of the expedition, she wrote:

Day 40 – Complete. Pratt just made history as the first woman of color to complete a solo expedition to Antarctica. You have the ability to do anything you want. No matter where you come from, no matter where your starting line is, everyone starts somewhere. I don’t want to just break the glass ceiling; I want to smash it into a million pieces. “
