Speaking to her fans, Carol told them: “I have some news to share with you.

“After working 7 days a week for as long as I can remember, I finally burned out just over 2 weeks ago and ended up in the hospital overnight.”

She then reassured her followers that there was nothing sinister going on, adding: “Luckily, after numerous scans and tests, we know I don’t have any underlying health issues.”

However, fear made Carol rethink her life.

She explained: “So, after a good chat with my family and friends, I took the health scare as a warning sign to slow down a bit and decided to reduce my work to weekdays for now.

“It pains me to have to do this, but I have decided not to continue with my Sunday show on LBC.”

Carol went on to say that she is sad to leave her job because she loves it.

“I’m fed up with having to make the decision, as the show has been really lively and a real joy, with so many new callers from all over the country and a growing number of listeners.”

She assured her listeners that she would “continue to be part of the LBC family” and would appear on the network “from time to time”.

Carol also promised to “continue to do a lot of mischief and call out corruption and wrongdoing.”

She insisted: “It’s not ending, but it’s starting a less frenetic chapter for now.”

The host signed off with “Love ya” and a series of heart-shaped emoticons.

In addition to radio appearances, Carol regularly appears on daytime shows such as Good Morning Britain and Lorraine.

She also runs her own maths company, The Maths Factor, and recently wrote a book on politics entitled, What Now? On a mission to fix a broken Britain.
