Carrie Underwood Makes Appearance at Local Tennessee Church to Help Lead Worship Service

Carrie Underwood let Jesus take the wheel over the weekend when she showed up at a local church in Tennessee.

On Sunday morning, August 11, the eight-time Grammy winner, 41, joined Rolling Hills Community Church to sing along with their worship team as they performed Bethel Worship’s 2019 song “The Goodness of God,” according to Instagram videos posted by a fan of the site for a Christian music collective.

In a clip from the post, Underwood is seen singing an impassioned song like, “I love you, Lord / Oh, your grace never fails me / All my days I’ve held in your hands / From the moment I wake up, till I lay my head down / Oh , I will sing of the goodness of God.”

In another video, the “Church Bells” performer is accompanied by a Franklin, Tenn., small choir. as they sing together, “‘Cause Your goodness is run after, it’s run after me / Your goodness runs after me, runs after me.”

Underwood has released several faith-based songs throughout her career, including her Grammy Award-winning song “Something in the Water” in 2014. She also released a cover album of traditional songs in 2021, titled my Saviorwhich won Best Roots Gospel Album at the Grammy Awards the following year.

Speaking to PEOPLE about the win backstage at the ceremony, Underwood said, “This was the biggest project I’ve ever been a part of that I could have done. This is one thing I wanted to do.”

“Literally my whole career I wanted to record this album and I succeeded,” she added. “This means everything in the world to me.”

These days, Underwood is busy with the next run of her Reflection residency in Las Vegas, which begins on August 14 and ends in the spring of 2025. She originally started with limited shows in December 2021 and has added more dates each year since.

The country singer will have her hands full for the next few months as she adds a new venture to her schedule: being the newest judge on the american idol. The season four winner-turned-judge will join Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie in season 23, which premieres next spring.

Underwood celebrated her american idol anniversary and her new performance on Sunday in an Instagram post with the caption: “✨ 8/11/2004 ✨ 20 years ago I auditioned for the @americanidol judges and today I’m now one of those judges looking for someone who wants to BE AN IDOL! It all starts with an audition… shall we #CUonIDOL 🇺🇸🎤.”
