- Cassie broke her silence on Thursday morning, releasing a statement on Instagram
- “My only request is that EVERYONE opens their hearts to the victims who believe for the first time,” the singer wrote in her post.
- The note comes six days after the release of a video showing Cassie’s ex Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs physically abusing her in 2016.
Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura has spoken out for the first time since the release of a 2016 video showing her being physically abused by ex Sean “Diddy” Combs.
On Thursday, May 23, Ventura, 37, posted a statement on Instagram, expressing her gratitude “for all the love and support from my family, friends, strangers and those I have yet to meet.”
She went on to explain that “the outpouring of love has created a place where my younger self can now settle down and feel safe.”
“But this is just the beginning,” Venture wrote. “Domestic violence is a problem. It broke me into someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always recover from the past.”
“This healing journey never ends, but this support means everything to me,” she also said. “Thank you.”

Ventura first made allegations against Combs in a now-settled lawsuit filed last November, claiming the music mogul raped and trafficked her during 10 years of abuse.
“After years of silence and obscurity, I am finally ready to tell my story and speak up for myself and for other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,” she said in a statement. “With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act quickly approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity for me to speak out about the trauma I experienced and will continue to recover from for the rest of my life.”

Combs, 54, denied the allegations, and his lawyer called them “offensive and outrageous.”
On December 6, the rapper spoke out about Cassie’s claims. “TOO MUCH IS TOO MUCH. For the past few weeks, I’ve sat by and watched people try to kill my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy,” he wrote in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. accusations against me.”
But he changed his stance after CNN released surveillance video on May 17 showing Diddy kicking, dragging and throwing things at Ventura as she allegedly tried to leave a hotel room while he slept.
“It’s so hard to think about the darkest times in your life,” Combs said in a statement via an Instagram video. “Sometimes you have to do it. I was screwed. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I’m not apologizing. My behavior in that video is inexcusable.”
“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” he captioned the post. “I’m really sorry.”

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office subsequently said they “could not” charge Combs in connection with the video of the attack, as it was recorded “outside the time frame in which the crime of assault can be prosecuted.”

In her post Thursday, Ventura acknowledged the backlash she received after filing the lawsuit.
“My only request is that EVERYONE open their hearts to the victims who believe for the first time,” Ventura wrote. “It takes a lot of heart to tell the truth from a situation where you were powerless.”
She then talked to other victims of domestic abuse. “I offer a hand to those who still live in fear,” she said. “Reach out to your people, don’t cut them off. No one should have to carry this weight alone.”
