Catherine O’Hara takes a trip down memory lane to the time she caused quite a stir in the Vatican.
During the visit The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday with her Argyll costar Bryce Dallas Howard, Schitt’s Creek The alum, 69, recalled how a unique wedding gift for her and her husband Bo Welch, 72, almost landed the couple in hot water with the church.
O’Hara and Welch met on the set of the 1980s cult classic bug juiceand when the couple married in 1992, film director Tim Burton (65) gave them tickets for a private tour of the Vatican.
“Somebody gave it to him. It was a very internal deal,” O’Hara joked before explaining the memorable experience.

“Okay, the priest took us around – at one point they were yelling at him. I wish I could speak Italian, but he was definitely being yelled at by another priest because we were in the Pope’s closet, looking at clothes and stuff. It was crazy,” the Best in show the actress said as Howard and Clarkson looked completely stunned.
Fortunately, they were not removed from the religious site despite the confusion. Instead, she and Welch ended up in a small museum where world leaders’ gifts to the Vatican are stored.
“And this priest just lets us open the boxes and pretends to put the crown in Bo’s backpack, taking pictures,” she said. The actress admitted that she didn’t have the photos with her that day, but she still has them “somewhere”.

In addition to making their unique day at the Vatican possible, Burton was responsible for the couple’s socializing.
While they were working on Beetlejuice, O’Hara recalls having a bit of a crush on Welch, who was the production designer, but was too shy to let him know. The actress said that despite Welch talking to her every day, “he never asked me out.”
O’Hara mentioned to Burton that she had no luck getting a date with him.
After hearing her dilemma, Burton decided to play matchmaker, and shortly after their conversation, Welch approached O’Hara and asked if she would like to join him and the rest of the art department for what O’Hara calls a very unromantic date at exchange.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, O’Hara joked about her penchant for church while reflecting on her role as Kate McCallister in the 1990 Christmas classic. Home alone.
Prompted by the December discussion he published The New York Times about a family that is among the top 1% of earners in Chicago, the metropolitan area where the film takes place, O’Hara thought about how the fictional family could make money.
