Chappell Roan Reveals She Has Always Wanted to 'Be Like Hannah Montana'

Chappell Roan has always admired the way Hannah Montana had the best of both worlds!

On Monday 12.8. Pop Crave shared “Hot to Go!” the singer’s full introduction to Miley Cyrus from her presentation as a Disney legend at D23 the day before. In her introduction, Roan, 26, not only praised Cyrus, 31, but also expressed her love for the former child star’s iconic Disney Channel character, Hannah Montana.

Roan revealed that the first concert she ever attended was Cyrus’ Best of Both Worlds Tour, featuring the Jonas Brothers, and seeing Cyrus on stage as Hannah Montana left a lasting impression on her.

“She came down in a box from the ceiling. I thought, ‘How am I going to do that one day?’ I’m still thinking about it,” she said. “I’m still thinking about the show. I want to be like Hannah Montana.”

As much as Roan is a Hannah Montana fan, she is first and foremost a Cyrus fan, as she made clear in her speech.

“One of the things I admire about Miley Cyrus is that she keeps reinventing herself and it always works,” she said in her introduction. “For a lot of artists that might seem inauthentic or out of the blue, but she’s very open about her transformations artistically and personally creating music that’s so authentic.”

The “Pink Pony Club” singer described herself as a “fan,” adding that there was “a lot of crossover between Miley and my project.”

“I love her fan base. She has a whole world supporting her. She could do whatever she wanted to do, which is something I want to do,” Roan explained. “Miley does anything and succeeds. Miley seems like freedom to me.”

Cyrus became the youngest Disney legend at D23 on Sunday, August 11, and the star did not lose the honor.

“A little bit of everything has changed, … but at the same time, nothing has changed,” a tearful Cyrus said in her speech. “I’m standing here still proud to be Hannah Montana.”

The “Flowers” singer added: “In so many ways, this award is dedicated to Hannah and all her amazing loyal fans, and everyone who made my dream come true. To quote the legend himself, ‘This is life.’ ‘ ”
