Charmed Cast Honors Shannen Doherty at 90s Con: 'She Had the Heart of a Lion'

The cast Enchanted pays special tribute to Shannen Doherty.

On Saturday, September 14, Holly Marie Combs, Brian Krause, Rose McGowan, Dorian Gregory and Drew Fuller paid tribute to their late costar with a special live episode of their podcast, Halliwell Housewith guest Brian Austin Green.

“This is bullshit,” said Green, 51. “Shannen was fucking tough. She was tough. I think out of all the people in my life, she was the one who was unapologetically Shannen. I can see how some people would see that as sassy, ​​’She’s a b—-‘ they said early on, which drove me crazy. I knew she had the biggest heart of anyone I knew, and she never meant to hurt anyone…she just truly believed in it. which she believed.”

Doherty herself set up a podcast taping at 90s Con, which she was originally supposed to attend. Speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet Friday afternoon, Fuller, 44, said the cast instead turned the moment into a celebration of life.

Sharing his memories, Costar Gregory, 53, spoke of the ways in which Doherty often “shared the joy”.

“The beauty and vivacity of this woman, it’s something I have no words for,” he said. “He leaves us with this: cherish every second of everyone you’re surrounded by and love. It’s such a gift.”

McGowan spoke of Doherty’s fierce love for her fans, noting that she has “the heart of a lion g——“.

“What a force,” said McGowan, 51, recalling their first meeting. “Seeing how she coped – and how I had to cope – when people tarnish your reputation and create this box that you can’t get out of, and that’s not who you are at all. I can’t prove that to people. What Shannen did for me, what was so amazing to watch, she continued to interact with people, she continued to move forward.”

Holly Marie Combs says Shannen Doherty felt ‘slandered’, would be ‘surprised’ by ‘outpouring of love’ after her death

On July 13, Doherty died after years of living with cancer. She was 53 years old.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of battling the disease,” Doherty’s longtime publicist Leslie Sloane confirmed in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE on Sunday, July 14.

“A devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog Bowie. The family is asking for privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,” Sloane concluded.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 The star was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and in November 2023, she spoke openly with PEOPLE about her stage 4 breast cancer, which by then had spread to her bones, saying she didn’t “want to die.”

“I’m not done with life. I’m not done with love. I’m not done creating. I’m not done with the hope of changing things for the better,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m just not—I’m not done.”

After being diagnosed in March 2015, the actress revealed a little over two years later, in April 2017, that she had gone into remission, but by 2019, the cancer had returned. Doherty publicly announced her diagnosis of stage 4 metastatic cancer in 2020. Then, in June 2023, the actress shared that the cancer had spread to her brain and she underwent surgery.

Earlier that day at 90s Con on September 14, the cast Beverly Hills, 90210 also rallied and remembered Doherty.

“I have a friend who is really sick with cancer right now and she said that Shannen really inspired her,” said actress Gabrielle Carteris. “I think her legacy really makes a difference for those who are struggling to know that there is hope.”
