Cher Attends Pre-Grammys Party with Alexander Edwards Following Emotional Court Appearance

Cher steps out for a pre-Grammy Awards party with her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards.

On Thursday, the pop superstar, 77, and Edwards, 38 — who went public with their relationship in November 2022 — smiled for photos as they posed on the red carpet at Warner Music Group’s pre-Grammys event held at Citizen News in Los Angeles.

For the party, Cher wore sparkly gray jeans and a black off-the-shoulder top for the night out, accessorizing with a pair of silver sequined gloves and matching jewelry.

Edwards posed next to his partner in a long black coat, adding a silver chain to his casual look.

During their appearance at the event, the pair made sure to stop by the singer’s Cherlato station, the ice cream company she started last year with Giapo Grazioli of New Zealand ice cream company Giapo.

While feasting on candy, PEOPLE spotted Edwards feeding Cher a bite of candy.

The evening marked Cherlat’s first ice cream shop and offered a variety of flavors, including Cher’s mom’s special recipe. The event also featured performances by Charli XCX and Teddy Swims.

Cher’s outing came after she appeared visibly emotional during a Los Angeles court appearance on Monday amid her request for temporary emergency custody of her son Elijah Blue Allman, 47.

The musician has an ongoing custody case due to concerns about Allman’s well-being, however, a judge on Monday again denied her request for temporary emergency custody, saying there was “not enough evidence” to go along with it.

During the hearing, Cher appeared distraught as her lawyers discussed her concerns for her son’s health and safety.

The singer’s lawyer explained that she filed for a temporary restraining order because she saw her son’s situation as serious and because she “feared that her son would not be alive within a year” due to two alleged ongoing issues, including a “history of drug use” and his diagnosis of ” schizoaffective disorder”.

The attorney stated that they expected a bipolar diagnosis for Allman from a “leading physician.”

“Cher was told by doctors that if she didn’t take this step as his mother, she would end up back on the streets,” the lawyer said.

Despite the judge’s ruling against temporary emergency custody, he added: “I don’t question Cher’s concerns about taking care of her son. I do not think [Allman] questions which.”

However, he stated that much of what they discussed was based on “fear” and hypotheticals, ruling: “That in itself is not a basis for a court to appoint a guardian of the estate. To date, I have not seen evidence for a temporary, emergency guardianship award.”

The judge also stated that Allman proved that he had “managed his finances”, “had an apartment” and “stayed drug free” after submitting to “several drug tests”.

The ex parte motion was previously dismissed earlier in January because Allman and his lawyers did not have enough time to review the paperwork.

On Monday, the judge also ruled that a further hearing in the ongoing proposed custody case will be held on March 6.
