Cher Recalls Deciding to ‘Loan Out’ Her Virginity at 14 and Have ‘Revenge Sex’ With a Boy Who ‘Dismissed’ Her: ‘I Was So Angry'

Cher opens up about losing her virginity as a teenager.

In his new memoir Cher: Memoirs, Part Onewhich was released on Tuesday, November 19, the singer and actress recalls the circumstances that led to her first sexual experience, which she describes as “massively overrated.”

Cher recalls that she had a crush on a boy from her neighborhood and that they started dating when she was 14, and she wrote that they were going to kiss in her bedroom.

However, the “Believe” singer soon noticed that the boy’s behavior changed when his friends were around. “[He] He was sweet enough when we were alone, but as soon as his friends came over, he would treat me like an awkward child,” she explains.

One day, when the boys were planning to go out to a restaurant, she says they laughed and mockingly asked her boyfriend if he would take “that kid” – and he immediately “unhooked” her.

“I was so hurt when he did it, I had revenge sex with him. I never wanted to. Otherwise I would have done it one of the five hundred other times he asked,” writes Cher. “But I was so angry at being fired that I decided, if not to lose, to lend him my virginity.”

“When he came to the end of what turned out to be a massively overrated experience, I asked him, ‘Is this it? Are we done?’ Then I told him to go home and never come back,” she continues, adding, “I wanted him to feel as rejected as he made me.”

Cher notes that the boy later tried to repay her, but she never spoke to him again.

The Burlesque the star also shares that she heard her mother’s voice ringing in her ears after the first sex. “My mother warned me that she would know as soon as I lost my virginity because she would see it in my eyes, so after going crazy with the Italian, I ran to the mirror to check,” she writes.

“I half expected to see the word SEX flashing in fluorescent letters on my forehead, but I couldn’t see anything different, and neither did she,” she adds.

While keeping the experience a secret from her mother, the pop icon must have informed her girlfriends, who she says at the time talked non-stop about “making out with the boys” but never went to “fourth base.”

“I informed my friends that the ‘thing’ they kept talking about was no big deal and that they should continue kissing, she recalls.

Elsewhere in the book, Cher recalls kissing actor Warren Beatty when she was 15 while driving in Hollywood, California. She says that one day she borrowed her adoptive father’s car and was cut off by a convertible on Sunset Boulevard. The driver turned out to be Beatty – who was 25 at the time and had just starred in a 1961 film. Shine in the grass.

“Ten years older than me, Warren was so beautiful that I had to pull myself together when he asked my name,” writes Cher.

The singer said he eventually invited her to his home for something to eat. After giving her a tour of his Trousdale Estates residence and serving her some cheese and crackers, he “then leaned in and kissed her,” she recalled, adding that she “kissed him back.”
