Cher Says She’s Living ‘in the Moment’ with Boyfriend: ‘It’s Never Too Late’ to Find Love (Exclusive)

Cher still believes in love – and enjoys it.

Ever since the pop legend and her boyfriend, music producer Alexander “AE” Edwards, went public with their relationship last year, their romance has been making headlines.

But she says she is “not surprised”.

“Alexander has diamond teeth, tattoos, white hair and is much younger. He’s a beautiful man,” says Cher (77) of her beau (37). “Also, I think it’s fun to pry into other people’s love lives!”

The pair met “for about 15 minutes” a year ago at a Paris Fashion Week event, she recalls, and a mutual friend gave him her number.

“It was really shocking, because people just don’t give out my number,” says Cher, who will release her first holiday album, Christmas, October 20. “I was telling all my friends, ‘We’re too old to date really younger men, and I’ll never fall in love over text.’ So I did what I said I wouldn’t do!”

But Cher broke her own rules for him “because he’s so special,” she says.

“I hate it when people say people are special, but a lot of people say I’m special, so I can say he’s special,” she adds. “Whatever happens, I like to be with him. He makes me laugh and we have fun. What I’ve learned is that it’s never too late. If you wrote all the statistics, you’d say, ‘Well, this is doomed.’ But we’ve been together for a year, and if it was only a year, it would have been worth it. I had the best time.”

Indeed, despite the Internet’s fascination with the couple — and their age difference — Cher chooses joy.

“If you’re happy, you can’t think about how long it’s going to last,” she says. “You have to think about ‘How does it feel?’ and live in the moment.”

And the couple is not just a romantic partner – they are also co-workers. Edwards produced her new song “Drop Top Sleigh Ride,” which will appear on Christmas along with the lead single “DJ Play a Christmas Song”.

“He’s a great producer,” Cher says of Edwards. “I let him do ‘Drop Top Sleigh.’ It’s hard to do that when you’re in love with someone and then you’re like, ‘OK, here, take this record and do what you want with it.’ But I had faith. And I was so thrilled.”
