Chrissy Teigen didn’t do her homework ahead of her husband’s gala concert.
In an Instagram post published on Thursday, December 5, the cookbook author, 39, shared that after visiting John Legend’s Christmas show, she was intrigued by one of his musical numbers.
“If John’s Christmas show is coming to your town, you have to go,” she began. “I went completely blind and oh, that’s so sweet.” She wrote that his setlist included a lot of classical songs, a slow dance with a fan (which she joked made her jealous 15 years ago) and “a lot of holiday cheer.”
“He actually did a song that I loved so much that I googled who sings it, because he also does a few covers,” she continued. “It turned out to be him. Whoa”

Teigen added that at the time she hadn’t “got around to the whole kids’ album,” referring to Legend’s My favorite dreamwhich came out in August. But after listening to it, she called it “so so beautiful,” which “makes my whole day.”
The singer, 45, exclusively announced John Legend’s Christmas tour with PEOPLE in October. Live shows, featuring a four-piece band, take place across the US throughout December.

“My hope for these shows is that they feel like a gathering of friends around the fire — where the music brings warmth, joy and a sense of community,” the EGOT winner said at the time.
“I’ve experienced the holidays in so many ways over the years, and each version of me — from my childhood to now as a father — has shaped the way I approach this season,” he continued.
Legend added, “I want to share that journey with the audience, through songs and stories that celebrate both the holiday spirit and the moments that bring us together. I hope people leave feeling like they’re part of something warm, familiar and special.”
