Christian Quadflieg News
Christian Quadflieg, a well-known actor who was initially turned down by theatre school but later performed on esteemed theatres and gained fame as “Der Landarzt” (The Country Doctor) on German television, has died at the age of 78.
After a protracted and dangerous illness, Quadflieg passed away on Sunday in Hamburg, according to his family. He became well-known for his portrayal of Dr. Karsten Mattiesen, the show’s star, in the ZDF series “Der Landarzt.” He also served as the show’s director. It aired from 1986 to 1992 and was based in the fictitious Schleswig-Holstein village of Deekelsen.
Between the 1970s and the 1990s, the actor primarily appeared on television, portraying about 200 different parts. Wolfgang Petersen’s “Tatort: Reifezeugnis” (1977), one of his well-known works, was about an affair between a teacher (Quadflieg) and a student (Nastassja Kinski).
Quadflieg was born on April 11, 1945 in Växjö, Sweden. She was one of actor Will Quadflieg’s five children. When he finished his education in Hamburg, the Bochum Drama School first turned him down. But he later managed to land jobs in Oberhausen, Wuppertal, and Basel.
Quadflieg had concentrated on literary events in recent years, delivering readings and producing audiobooks. He recited biblical stories as well as poems by Erich Kästner, Heinrich Heine, and Eduard Mörike.
The popular German television series “Vater wider Willen” (Father Against His Will), which aired from 1995 to 2002, was the actor’s last on-screen performance. In this family drama, he took on the role of a conductor. Since 1974, Quadflieg has been wed to fellow actor Renate Reger. In a statement, his family expressed their sorrow at losing a cherished person and a talented artist.
Fans and associates of Christian Quadflieg will recall and honour his achievements to German theatre and television.
