Patrick Dempsey and Christian Slater have Mobsters reunion, which lasted more than three decades.
Both actors appear in Dexter previous series, Dexter: Original Sin — but they last shared the screen in 1991, as young mobsters who took over New York in the 1920s.
“I worked with Dempsey 30 years ago Mobsters and it was a funny gangster movie,” Slater recounted during a recent interview with PEOPLE.
In the film, Slater, now 55, played Charlie “Lucky” Luciano, a real-life gangster who was part of the creation of the National Crime Syndicate. Dempsey, now 58, was Meyer Lansky, another organized crime figure.

Mobsters he loosely followed the creation of what is known as “The Commission,” the governing body of the American Mafia. The film was widely panned upon release.
“It’s a zinger,” Slater says of the film. “It’s really something. We have our Tommy guns and it’s a pretty funny movie.”

Regardless of his feelings, Fr MobstersSlater tells PEOPLE, “It was great to reconnect with [Dempsey]. It was really, really great. Really great.”
Dexter: Original Sin explores how the infamous serial killer whose roots are Michael C. Hall became the man viewers came to know in the 2006 series. In the new series, Dempsey plays Miami Homicide Captain Aaron Spencer, and Slater is Dexter’s father, Harry.

During an interview with PEOPLE in October, Dempsey told PEOPLE of the series, “I had a lot of fun working on it.”
“The culture within the shoot itself was one of great celebration, joy and fun,” he particularly praised, noting that since the cast is an “ensemble,” “we all have our days where we carry the load of work, and then we have some free time to we balance life.”
