CORONATION Street is bringing back comedian John Thomson to replace Sean Wilson’s character Martin Platt.
Cold Feet and Fast Show star John, 55, will romance Martin’s ex-wife Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, 73, who is leaving the ITV soap.

Bosses had to launch the urgent storyline after axing 59-year-old Sean’s character just two weeks ago – The Sun revealed on Saturday.
The cast and crew were confused by Sean’s departure.
A spokeswoman said he “resigned for personal reasons”.
A source said of John’s return: “The past few weeks have been absolutely frantic, incredibly stressful for Corrie bosses and writers.
“There were so many new stories about Gail leaving, but they focused on the love interest – which proved to be tricky as she buried five of her six ex-husbands. And the one left alive, Martin, was apparently axed in real life.
“They wanted a recognizable name and decided on John because his character was popular with viewers and is a real blast from the past.”

John arrived on the Cobbles as a cyclist in 1990 and returned in 2008 as Jesse Chadwick until 2010.
His return gives Gail a chance to have one last laugh at archenemy Eileen Grimshaw — who Jesse used to date — before she leaves later this year.
Our source said: “Obviously his character, Jesse, had a failed relationship with Eileen, so they thought having him back on the cobblestones and flirting with Eileen’s friend would be both funny and a fantastic last connection.
