Actor Seamus McGoff has seemingly confirmed he has left the soap, amid an ongoing cast exodus.
This comes after five stars – Charlotte Jordan, Sue Cleaver, Sue Devaney, Colson Smith and Luca Toolan – announced they are leaving or being written out from November 2024.
The actor, who plays Matty Radcliffe in the ITV soap, left fans ecstatic when he shared a post on Instagram saying his character “went out with a bang”.
Matty was involved in a heartbreaking knife crime story where his older brother Logan (Harry Lowbridge) was stabbed to death by his brother Mason (Luca Toolan).
Confirming his exit, Seamus posted a picture of himself posing with several of his Coronation Street co-stars.
In the footage, Seamus could be seen with Jack Carroll and Marc Bayliss, as well as Rebecca Atkinson, who recently signed up for the soap for a guest role as a prison guard.
The clip was a behind-the-scenes picture of Seamus’ final scene on the soap.
In the final scene – which fans didn’t know was his last – Matty was in the prison visiting room waiting to see his girlfriend.
When his girlfriend didn’t show up, Matty got angry and didn’t like the way Bobby Donovan (played by the aforementioned Jack) was looking at him.
TERRIBLE CRIMINAL KNIFE
Matty then grabbed a knife and threatened to hurt Bobby, and his father Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) quickly stepped in to try and talk Matty out of hurting his son.
Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson says actors are underpaid
After a tense moment, Matty was seen being sent to solitary confinement after holding a prison guard hostage.
Sharing that his final scene had aired, actor Seamus captioned the clip: “Out with a bang!”
Reacting to the clip and the news that his final scenes had already aired, one person commented: “You’re not done yet are you!?!”
Another asked, “Don’t tell me that’s your last scene?”
Corrie cash crunch: shock release for 2025
ITV bosses are involved in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap.
This means that a number of stars have either been kicked out or have left the long-running serial drama.
Colson Smith – Craig Tinker
Bosses have ditched Craig Tinker’s character after 14 years. After being told the news in the fall of 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that it would be dropped from the series with scenes to air later this year. Craig’s on-screen mother, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out of the role.
Sue Cleaver – Eileen Grimshaw
After 25 years of playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I’m A Celebrity co-star Sue Cleaver is to leave the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she had already started filming her exit scenes. However, the character will not be killed in case Sue decides to return in the future.
Luca Toolan – Mason Radcliffe
Bosses have decided to ax the teenage character after just 16 months after he first joined the series. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his friend Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him.
Sue Devaney – Debbie Webster
In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster would be killed off after 40 years on the cobblestones. The character will die as part of a long-running heartbreaking story about dementia.
Charlotte Jordan – Daisy Midgeley
The actress has become the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed she will be leaving the ITV soap later this year after four years on screen. Charlotte told sources she is hungry to see what other opportunities await.
Shelley King – Yasmeen Metcalfe
The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years, and we revealed in January that she had finished filming her final scenes. This followed the departure of her on-screen partner Stu Carpenter.
While a third said in disbelief, “Omg, you’re leaving?”
“Fantastic episode that makes us proud to love you,” said a fourth.
As a fifth gushed, “Brilliant work Seamus.”
CORRIE MONEY CRISIS
This comes after Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Bradley in the ITV soap Coronation Street, said ITV was struggling financially.
Meanwhile, some fans of the soap believe that if it comes down to it, ITV would ditch Emmerdale in a bid to save the Manchester-based soap.
“If it came down to it, ITV would sacrifice Emmerdale to save Corrie,” wrote one fan on the soap’s forum.
“Emmerdale would go first as a sacrificial lamb,” said another.
