Country Singer Joshua Ray Walker Says His Colon Cancer Has Spread to His Lungs: 'The Odds Have Shifted'

Joshua Ray Walker discovered his cancer had unexpectedly spread and started a GoFundMe page as his treatment continues.

On Sept. 10, the country singer — who was diagnosed with colon cancer last year — shared an update on his health on Instagram, sharing that the disease had spread to his lungs and that his prognosis was not good.

“I have good news and bad news to share,” he began. “The good news is that I’m done with chemotherapy! It was extremely difficult and I want to thank you all very much for supporting me through this experience. My body took it pretty well and I started to rebuild my strength and immune system!”

A blood test to detect colon cancer could be approved by 2024, a new study says

“The bad news is that after completing tests to check the status of my cancer after treatment, multiple nodules of various sizes were found in both of my lungs,” he said.

Walker explained that before starting chemotherapy he was told he had a 90% chance of having clear tests after treatment. Because of this, he said he was not ready to learn that there was a brand new growth of a new organ.

“This unfortunately means that my cancer will likely be moved back to stage 4,” he continued. “I’m going for a lung biopsy and soon I’ll start radiation. I wish I had more information to share, but I’m still waiting to see the radiation oncologist after my biopsy surgery.”

The artist — known for songs like “Voices” and “Lot Lizard” — promised to keep his followers updated throughout his journey and assured fans that he’ll “keep fighting my hardest.”

“The outlook has definitely changed, but I won’t announce it here. It seems defeatist and unnecessary,” he added. “I’ll let you know what they were after I beat them. I have always lived life to the fullest and will continue to do so.”

Walker then said he started a GoFundMe page to help financially with his upcoming battle. “I thank everyone in advance for their continued love and support. I love you all so much,” he said.

The Texas musician first revealed he was diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023, saying the disease made his quality of life “pretty brutal” but the cancer was caught early. He was operated on on January 3rd before the start of chemotherapy.

“I’m going to fight with everything I’ve got, and my odds are great,” Walker said at the time. “All I ask is your patience and healing thoughts during this time.”
