Welcome to Plathville's Moriah Drops Shocking Bombshell That Her Ex Had a Secret Family: 'It's a Lot of Pain'

Moriah Plath is finally opening up about what went wrong in her last relationship.

On the September 10 episode of TLC Welcome to Plathville, Moriah sat down with Barry Plath, Ethan Plath, Micah Plath and Micah’s new girlfriend Veronica to share their new album, which was written after a difficult breakup. In one song, titled “September,” Moriah sang about how she felt during the parts of the relationship that she didn’t discuss with her family.

“Knocking on my door, I kept hanging,” it began. “I am waiting for a lot of promises that have not been kept or broken. I couldn’t bear another day of waiting for someone I knew would never show up.”

Moriah called this song “the one that’s going to say the most about what happened,” and compared songwriting to therapy. Her dad explained that the music came from her “pain” caused by “that guy”, symbolizing “coming out of the trauma of that relationship”.

“In September it was a whirlwind of emotions and things with Moriah in her life and a lot of things were exposed and came out that allowed her to hit a low point, a breaking point, with that relationship,” Barry told the cameras after Moriah got up to take a break from talking.

“From what Mariah told me, it seems like he would come and go,” Micah said, while Veronica added, “There were times when he was outside her apartment and he said, ‘Oh, you didn’t answer fast enough. phone, So I left.’ I actually don’t think he was there. I think he was just doing it to make her feel bad.”

“Mind games,” Barry interjected.

The two started dating while Micah was in Europe, and Veronica said she saw a lot of toxic patterns when she lived in Florida at the same time as Moriah. Sometimes, Veronica noted, Moriah’s ex would cancel on her after she dressed up for a date.

“I don’t think he ever intended to leave,” she said, noting that Moriah became more open about his behavior as she “got more tired of it.”

Veronica also explained that Moriah’s ex wanted her to “be more private” about their issues with her family, which Micah said eventually led to a rift between them.

“He would lead her to the point where, [Moriah said]’Oh, he’ll be better. He promises,’ Veronica recalled. “And she believed in it. I thought he would, he would.”

“I found out that he was the one who was holding Mariah in his ear and he was keeping her pretty much from some of the family members,” Micah said. “But that was also the reason why me and Mariah didn’t really have a relationship for a while because he was telling her not to.”

When Moriah decided to take a break from her ex and visit her family back home, she said they “did some digging.” What they discovered about him was much more surprising than they expected.

“At the very end she found out that he actually has another girl who is either his girlfriend or his wife or whatever, but that he has a child with that other woman,” Ethan revealed. “That guy was with another woman at the time with whom he had a child and that’s probably why he couldn’t date Mariah.”

Barry had already met him and said he thought the ex was a “great guy,” even noting that he was impressed during their three-hour conversation.

“I’ve never met such a master trickster before,” Barry said.

Moriah then came back and added that her entire relationship was “up and down.” When she went home, she said she “needed someone to talk to” and her family encouraged her to break up with him.

“They said ‘go away,'” she thought back. “There’s simply no need for answers. No question. Just leave.’”

Earlier in the episode, Moriah cried to mom Kim about the effects the relationship had on her — it even caused her so much stress that it caused her hair to regrow due to alopecia. Comforting her daughter, Kim joked that she would be a “background check” on any future boyfriend.

“It’s a big pain,” she said. “But then you just say, ‘Oh, I have no choice but to continue.'”

Moriah said if she could go back in time, she would try to get more answers from her ex.

“I was very hurt then,” she said. “I wrote this album in hopes of answering some of the questions I’m trying to come to terms with not having answers to. You get to the other side, you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel and you think, ‘Oh, it’s going to get better.'”
