Luiz Evaldo Lima, Graciane Rosa de Oliveira and baby Léo Oliveira de Lima died on Tuesday.

Felipe Ferreira, who lives in the building next door, said: “We saw a couple with a child at the window of the seventh floor.

“We started yelling for them not to jump, but the flames quickly engulfed them.

“Eventually they jumped and died instantly.”

An investigation has been launched to find out what caused a fire in an apartment building in Valparaíso de Goiás.

Captain Fábio José Rodrigues of the Goiás Fire Department told local media: “They died of despair.”

The witness said that the flames spread “very quickly and violently”.

Another fire brigade official, Maurício Correia, said: “It could have been something that exploded and caught the gas pipes.”

Graciane, 35, was an eyelash technician, and Luiz, 28, a waiter, as NeedToKnow reports.

The couple met for the first time in 2019 in the wholesale store where Luiz worked at the time.

Two other people were rescued from the couple’s apartment on Tuesday morning, including Graciane’s mother.

Graciane also had a seven-year-old daughter, who was at school when the fire engulfed the building.

He is now with his grandparents.

The fire brigade evacuated the residents from the block, and 15 people were transferred to local hospitals with symptoms of smoke inhalation.
