Craig Melvin and his family celebrated Christmas with a furry addition to their household.
The TODAY The co-host said during the morning show on Tuesday that his family welcomed a puppy on Christmas and that it was planned as a surprise for his children.
On holiday morning, Melvin’s children, Delano, 9, and Sybil, 7, woke up to find dog toys and bowls wrapped under the Christmas tree. Melvin said that’s when he revealed to the two of them that he was going to get a new puppy.

On December 30, Melvin and his family picked up an Irish Doodle puppy in Virginia and named him Myles Copper Melvin. The Date line The correspondent shared that the dog’s name was a nod to Spider-Man’s Miles Morales and that his daughter chose the middle name.
“It’s been a magical few days,” Melvin said of the pup during the broadcast, adding, “He’s a great unifier.”
The television personality also shared pictures of the dog cozying up on the couch alongside Melvin’s wife, journalist Lindsay Czarniak, and their two children.

Another picture shows Melvin’s children holding the dog, and the third focuses only on Myles as he walks through the grass.
On Instagram, Melvin and Czarniak shared a joint post with a video of their children meeting Myles for the first time. In the same video, the puppy can be seen riding on the children’s lap on the way home.
The couple captioned their post: “Starting the year off by welcoming our newest family member. Meet Myles. We’re already smitten❤️ #love #puppy #family #dog.”

Meet the significant other hosts of the ‘Danas’ show
During Tuesday TODAY broadcast, Melvin noted that Myles’ presence in his home helped ease the tension. When Sheinelle Jones asked if Melvin’s family was “all his [Myles’] face,” noted that they “need to give Myles some space.”
“And my wife, Lindsay, is just as bad as the kids,” he continued, saying he tells his family to let Myles “walk around” a bit without getting in the way.
The comment prompted Jones to joke, “I feel like I’m going to see you with Myles a lot,” to which Al Roker replied, “Right. Oh, God, no, you know that.”
