Despite its rules against sexual content, Twitch is still allowing users to stream Cyberpunk 2077. The new game from CD Projekt Red sports a large amount of nudity throughout and has its fair share of sexual content as well. Many games have been banned on the platform, but Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the few that exceptions are being made for.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been hotly anticipated for many years at this point. The game was originally announced all the way back in 2012, and fans of CD Projekt Red have been clamoring to get their hands on it ever since. After a nearly seven-year wait, the company stated that Cyberpunk 2077’s release date would be April 16, 2020. This very obviously did not pan out as the game suffered experienced several delays due to production issues, and players were not able to get the game in their hands until just a few days ago.
Many were concerned that once Cyberpunk 2077 did release that there would be some issues with streaming it on Twitch, but CNN reports that Twitch is making an exception for the massively popular game. Streamers will be able to stream without worries of their account being suspended for violating sexual content rules, but they must follow a few guidelines. Essentially streamers will need to make sure that their stream doesn’t focus on the nudity aspects of the game and that they progress through any sections with sexual content as quickly as possible. As long as they do this, there will be no repercussions from Twitch for streaming the game. The official rules state:
User-Generated Sexual In-Game Content
Focusing your broadcast around sexual content or in-game nudity in an otherwise allowed game will result in enforcement action against your Twitch account. When interacting with in-game nudity or sexual content in a permitted game, users may only spend as much time as is required to progress. In addition, users may not engage in simulated sexual activity or erotic roleplay—which includes the specific behaviors listed under Sexually Suggestive Content above—with other players in online games. Games that primarily consist of user-generated content, in-game role-play, or interactions in virtual reality are not exempt from this policy.
Those who are playing on PC are probably the only ones able to stream Cyberpunk 2077 right now, though. Players on console are currently experiencing a massive amount of bugs and glitches. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game in particular are giving players are really hard time as the last generation consoles are clearly not powerful enough to run the Cyberpunk 2077 properly. Players have reported graphical glitches, frame rate drops, physics issues, and even widespread crashes that are making it difficult to continue playing the game.
Despite these bugs and glitches though Cyberpunk 2077 has already quickly climbed its way up the ladder on Twitch and has made itself massively popular. With its heavy focus on sexual content and nudity many assumed that Cyberpunk 2077 would wind up on the banned game list for Twitch, but that’s not the case. It will be interesting to see if Cyberpunk 2077 can continue to hold on to its popularity on Twitch going forward.
[UPDATE 15/12/2020: This article has been altered to more accurately reflect Twitch’s rules concerning nudity and sex in games.]
