OnePlus may be making major changes to its upcoming flagships, which could be very disappointing to long-time fans of the brand. OnePlus has undergone many changes in the past few years. In 2020, it shifted from a flagship-only business model to one that includes mid-range and budget smartphones. The following year, it announced a merger with OPPO, becoming a subsidiary of an independent brand after many years.
Released in 2021, the OnePlus 9R is the first in what OnePlus calls a “new series of smartphones.”Entry-level flagshipLater, the company launched the T variant called OnePlus 9RT in October 2021. Both phones are exclusive to China and India, offering a flagship experience at a more affordable price, but with some trade-offs.
OnePlus is expected to launch the successor to the OnePlus 9R later this year, reportedly the OnePlus 10R. Additionally, the phone’s specifications have also been leaked, revealing an important feature that will be missing. Posted by Yogesh Brar on Twitter (@heyitsyogesh), the spec sheet states that the OnePlus 10R will not have an alert slider, a hardware switch located on the side of OnePlus phones that allows users to easily switch between sound profiles.
No alert slider, but charging is extremely fast
This wouldn’t be the first OnePlus phone to lack a signature feature, as budget smartphones like the Nord N200 don’t have an alert slider. However, this is reportedly the first flagship that will be missed. It was previously reported that Alert Slider will appear on non-OnePlus phones from sister brands.
Leaving aside the missing Alert Slider, the rest of the OnePlus 10R’s specs are pretty good. The phone will feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display will have a punch-hole to house a 16MP camera, while a 50MP triple-camera setup will grace the back of the phone. It will be powered by MediaTek’s new Dimensity 8100 processor and will draw power from a 4500mAh battery. According to reports, the phone will be available in 8GB RAM and 12GB RAM options, with storage space up to 256GB 91 mobile phone.
The icing on the cake is support for 150W fast charging, which can charge the phone from 0% to 50% in just five minutes. The source also mentioned that the second version of the phone will be equipped with a larger 5000mAh battery capacity, but the charging speed will be capped at 80W, which is still super fast and an upgrade from the 65W fast charging supported by the 2021 model. An earlier report revealed that the OnePlus 10R will be released in May 2022 and it will run OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12 out of the box.
