Roopa secured All-India rank 43 in UPSC examination and subsequently she trained at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad, Telangana, where she obtained Ranked fifth in the batch, he was later posted to the Karnataka cadre. While working on the case, she was suspended for trying to broker a deal between her and a former MP from Gadag in Karnataka. In 2013, she became the first female police officer in the United States to serve as chief of the Cybercrime Police Department. In 2017, she was appointed as Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Bengaluru. While serving as DIG in Bengaluru Central Jail, Rupa found out that All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary VK Sasikala, who was serving his sentence in Bengaluru Central Jail, was given the privilege of obtaining personal clearance. The conference room where she used to hold lengthy meetings with visitors, including politicians, and a private kitchen where food was prepared to her liking. Rupa reported the situation to senior authorities and claimed that the Home and Prisons Department Director General of Police (DGP) HN Sathyanarayana Rao and other officials were responsible for the irregularities that occurred at Bengaluru Central Jail. Rupa further mentioned that Sasikala was given VVIP treatment in the jail, where a corridor of five cells was reportedly provided for her personal use in exchange for a bribe of Rs. 2 crore to jail officials; an independent commission of inquiry headed by retired IAS officer Vinay Kumar conducted a probe into the VK Sasikala case in January 2019. After the case, D. Roopa was transferred to the post after serving as DIG (Prisons) in Bengaluru for nearly a month. In July 2017, she was appointed as the Director General of Police and Commissioner of Traffic and Road Safety, Bengaluru. In February 2023, D. Roopa, Managing Director of the Karnataka Handicrafts Development Corporation, shared a photo of Rohini Sindhuri, deputy commissioner of Muzrai, on social media, claiming that Sindhuri was Her private photos and videos were shared with three IAS officers in 2021 and 2021. In a photo shared by Roopa on social media, Sindhuri can be seen meeting KR Nagar MLA Sa. pull. Mahesh. Roopa further listed 19 charges against Rohini Sindhuri, including corruption charges. Talking about the matter to the media, Rupa said,
What does it mean when such photos are sent to male senior officials? This is not a personal matter. I’m posting these pictures now because I’ve only now been able to access them. If I had received it sooner I would have published it. This is not a personal matter. I will discuss this further. This is a breach of the Code of Conduct. ”
Reacting to the allegations leveled by D. Roopa, Rohini Sindhuri claimed that the allegations were false. Sindhuri spoke about this in an interview and said:
These photos are screenshots taken from social media posts/WhatsApp statuses and used to shock me. This was her (Ms. Rupa’s) standard modus operandi. She has done this in every place she has worked. She has always craved media attention. I will take legal and other action against her conduct which amounts to misconduct and criminal offense under various sections of the IPC. ”
In September 2023, the Karnataka High Court dismissed the petition filed by Rupa.

- During her childhood, Rupa’s parents often encouraged her to participate in sports, dance and extracurricular activities. In an interview, she spoke about this and revealed that she is good at dancing, especially Bharatnatyam, and also good at singing. She lent her voice to a Kannada song from the album “Bayalaatada Bheemanna” (2019).
- Rupa revealed in an interview that the idea of entering the civil service came to her when she was a student. She added that one of her school teachers asked students in her class to discuss with their parents what careers they would like to choose in the future and present it in class the next day. Roopa’s mother Hemavathi wants her to become a doctor, while her father JS Diwakar said he wants her to become an IAS or IPS officer. The next day, Roopa went to school and her teacher asked everyone to applaud her as she shared what her father said and then she realized that becoming an IAS or IPS officer was something special. Roopa joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) as a class 9 student.
