Daniel Dubois KNOCKS OUT Anthony Joshua in HUGE upset after savage onslaught in front of 96,000 stunned fans at Wembley

DANIEL DUBOIS has dashed Anthony Joshua’s hopes of ending his dream career with a right-hander for the ages.

Dynamite Dan detonated a fifth-round punch — after dropping AJ three times in the previous four rounds — to retain his IBF world title and ruin AJ’s dream spring mega-fight with Tyson Fury.

It was five of the most brilliant rounds you can imagine.

Joshua, 34, was cooked from the start, dazed and confused, hopping around the ring and then sticking his tongue out and trying to show off. But it wasn’t funny – and it was potentially the end of an era.

It also crowned the 27-year-old Dubois as a bona fide world champion and a threat now feared by all other heavyweights.

The gauntlet of brotherhood was not lost between the two Londoners.

And there was none on show when Liam Gallagher turned up to do a three-song set without a reunited Noel — so this Idler’s Dream was cut short and back to work.

The latest appearance in showbiz was a rerun of the promotion directed by Guy Ritchie, which launched a mega-money Wembley sell-out of 96,000.

Dubois played the role of a torture victim, strapped into an ice bath where bloodthirsty gangsters electrocuted him with jumper cables.

But now he was really going deep and saw sparks flying—butt and two biceps smoking.

The biggest headline during fight week was the disappearance of Dubois’ new trainer Don Charles in the most critical days of Dynamite Dan’s career.

Luckily, Charles showed up, entering the ring with his protégé with his dad sitting on the outside of the red corner.

The fight was STOPPED as the lights went out at Wembley during the undercard ahead of the title fight between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois

Round by round: How Dubois demolished Joshua

ANTHONY JOSHUA bravely picked himself up off the floor against Daniel Dubois – until he couldn’t anymore.

Dubois hit AJ four times in five rounds before a fierce counter ended the show in dramatic fashion.

Here SunSport’s Jack Figg takes you round by round from the war at Wembley.

1ST ROUND

Dubois comes out sharp with a jab as Joshua bounces around struggling to deal with a jab left.

A huge right hand from Dubois sent AJ staggering backwards with his hands too low from the opening bell.

Joshua had to pay for the mistake as he circled with his hands down and was dropped over the right.

2ND ROUND

Joshua – saved only by the bell after falling to the floor – struggles to move as he takes a shot to the face.

AJ staggers and staggers around the ring with a dangerously low guard again and tempting pressure.

Joshua tries to get back into the fight, but his jab looks too lazy – he doesn’t look like he’s recovered from the knockdown.

3rd ROUND

AJ comes out with more intent, but swings wildly with a right and only connects with some air.

Dubois turns up the pressure and kicks Joshua into the corner scoring another takedown.

The bell rings, but Dubois lands a one or two after that – again AJ saves the clock as the writing looks on the wall.

4TH ROUND

Disaster strikes again with Joshua falling to the floor again – losing his balance as he touched the canvas.

The ref gives AJ another fighting chance and Dubois lands a low blow – giving the challenger some valuable respite.

Dubois slows down as the four rounds draw to a close and Joshua shows sensational resilience to hang on.

5TH ROUND

Joshua lands a huge right hand and Dubois’ legs buckle – it looks like a stunning reversal is about to happen.

AJ pins Dubois against the ropes and tries one of his signature uppercuts, but a counter right hand lands first.

Joshua is caught flat on the chin, once again he is dropped and this time for good. Dubois scores an incredible knockout victory.

But when AJ came in second — a confusing move considering he was the challenger — it was on The Godfather.

Dubois seemed to need support against the family.

But he mocked that conspiracy at the start.

After the 27-year-old took control of the fight from the opening bell with a blistering jab, he made the older man look like the challenger he was – a man who should have arrived first and waited on the ropes.

Then — with 16 seconds left in the first round — Dubois looked right at his father and looked like he was having daddy issues.

But then he unleashed a right hand that almost knocked AJ out.

Joshua collapsed on the floor and looked completely wasted.

It was a real miracle that he got up again and made a second trip on sly legs.

The second installment didn’t start any better for Joshua either.

“Aren’t you having fun?” I’m a gladiator’ – what Dubois and Joshua said after the brutal fight

DANIEL DUBOIS destroyed Anthony Joshua’s dream of becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion, writes Wally Downes Jr.

Joshua fell FOUR times as Dubois finished with a stunning fifth-round knockout in front of a Wembley record 96,000 and millions of TV viewers to retain his IBF belt.

AJ, 34, never recovered after being knocked down in the first round of last night’s Battle of Britain showdown when he was caught on the chin by Dubois’ massive right hook.

Here’s what they said after the fight:

DANIEL DUBOIS

“Aren’t you having fun? I am a gladiator, a warrior to the end. This is the biggest victory in my career. I couldn’t miss this opportunity and now I want to move to the highest level of this game.

“I was on a roller coaster ride and this is my time. I will not stop until I reach my full potential.”

ANTHONY JOSHUA

“As distraught as I am, it is what it is.

“I had a sharp, fast opponent and I made a lot of mistakes. Kudos to my opponent and his team.

“We rolled the dice and came up short. You know I’m fired up, but I’m going to stay composed and respect my opponent.”

FRANK WARREN (DUBOIS PROMOTER)

“It was a phenomenal fight, like Hagler vs. Hearns.

“Brilliant fight and everyone saw the champion’s performance tonight.

“Daniel showed his courage, his skills.

“AJ caught him with a kick towards the end and I was worried, but what an amazing, fantastic fight.”

EDDIE HEARN (AJ’S PROMOTER)

“AJ landed a huge right in the first round and fought his heart out.

“He hurt Daniel at the end of the fourth and then again in the fifth, but he got greedy and went for the right hand and that’s all she wrote.

“I’m sure Anthony will use the rematch clause.”

Dubois landed every punch he threw and AJ’s legs returned to Watford, it was like a replay of Andy Ruiz’s horror series.

But he pulled himself together and recovered – catching Dubois with a right hand that he had to eat.

Dubois started the third with a clear one-two and AJ was like a rabbit in headlights, staggering around.

But Joshua landed an uppercut that suggested he had eased into the fight.

Then Dubois threw a left hook that knocked AJ unconscious – and the countdown began outside the ring.

Referee Marcus McDonnell ignored that call.

Dubois then beat him more and more and he crashed into the ropes and was pulled up for the eight count.

As soon as the fourth started, Joshua was counted again – but he moaned that he had just slipped.

Despite this, it was three floors in the first four rounds. Slaughter.

Then Joshua fell again and this time it was judged to be a slip – and it didn’t count.

20

It was almost a slap, and when AJ stuck his tongue out to show he was having fun, we knew he was in hell.

Then, suddenly, Dubois looked done.

AJ started and continued to pound him and Dubois looked seconds away from either giving up or collapsing again.

But then came the blow that could have ended AJ’s career at the elite level.

Dubois dug deeper than ever and landed the most vicious right hand imaginable.

AJ is destroyed. The referee made a mistake even when he started the count. It was over.

Fury’s fight was probably ruined, and AJ’s dream of being a three-time world champion was in flames.

In June, when a pair of London Adonises met to start a brawl, AJ threatened to “smash this fucking chair in your face”.

Dubois never backed down and security had to separate them.

But from there, AJ’s old violent streak seemed to rekindle, and he revealed that a rowdy guy in a pub last week unleashed his villainous side – just in time to face Dubois.

But it was DDD – who came in dressed like Mike Tyson – who needed only his fists to slam AJ into the Wembley canvas.
