Dario G is best known for his debut single Sunchyme which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart.

Fans will remember the iconic video with the dancers in incredible safari costumes and make-up.

The group – named after former Crewe manager Alexandra Dario Gradi – consisted of three DJs: Scott Rosser, Stephen Spencer and Paul.

The trio also enjoyed success with the song Carnaval de Paris, which was recorded for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.

Paul announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he had been diagnosed with stage four rectal cancer last June.

He said it was “hard to write” but was trying to “stay positive”.

Paul explained: “This is hard to write. I’ve just found out I have stage 4 rectal cancer and a shadow on my liver.

“I’m sure that’s damn hard to read too. I’ll do my best though.

“Stay positive, because I am. Always. I’m going to the doctor on Friday to discuss the next steps.”

This Morning’s Dr Phillipa reveals the terrifying moment she was diagnosed with bowel cancer aged 39 as she prepares for her final 12-hour operation

It read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today.

“He was positive until the end, but this was a battle he could no longer fight.

Signs of bowel cancer that could save your life

BOWEL cancer is the fourth most common form of the disease in the UK – but the second deadliest, claiming around 16,000 lives a year.

However, it can be cured if diagnosed early.

Fewer than one in ten people survive bowel cancer if it is detected at stage 4, but it is detected at stage 1 – before it has spread – and more than nine in ten patients will live for five years or longer.

There are two ways to ensure early diagnosis, screening and awareness of symptoms.

Britons are subject to a postcode lottery when it comes to bowel cancer screening, with tests being sent in Scotland from 50, while people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have to wait until they are 60.

That’s why The Sun launched the No Time 2 Lose campaign, calling on the government to lower the screening age to save thousands of lives a year.

In the summer of 2018, The Sun and its readers secured a major victory with the then health secretary, Matt Hancock, agreeing to start screening at the age of 50, however it is yet to be widely introduced.

While screening is an important part of early diagnosis, knowing the symptoms and taking action if you notice the signs are just as important.

The five red flag symptoms are:

  • Bleeding from the back passage or blood in the stool
  • A change in your usual toilet habits – for example going more or less frequently
  • Abdominal pain or lump
  • Extreme fatigue for no real reason
  • Unexplained weight loss

If you’re worried, don’t be embarrassed and talk to your GP – doctors see and treat bowel problems all the time.

“He left behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people.

“He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. Shine on our great star.”

Paul released 15 singles and three albums under that name.

The last one was Hola in June 2020.

Rectal cancer is often called bowel cancer.

Stage four cancer is where the cancer has spread from where it started to another organ, often called secondary cancer.
