David Chang Says Chrissy Teigen’s Daughter Luna Is ‘a Big Sister’ to His Kids (Exclusive)

Chrissy Teigen and David Chang document their friendship and culinary adventures Chrissy and Dave have dinner out — and it turned out that their little ones are friends too.

Chang has two sons, Hugo (4) and Gus (2) with his wife Grace. Teigen and husband John Legend have older children, Luna, 7, and Miles, 5, and welcomed daughter Esti in January, and welcomed boy Wren via surrogate in June.

“They met many times,” Chang tells PEOPLE of all their families. “They get along great, and I think Luna is always the older sister to the kids.”

In their new freeform series, Teigen and the Momofuku founder are joined by comedian Joel Kim Booster as they hit up restaurants in Los Angeles. While Chang chats with the chefs in the kitchen, Teigen and Booster have unfiltered conversations with a rotating list of celebrity guests at the table.

For that they needed people who were funny.

“We knew that the guests had to have personalities and qualities that maybe the audience didn’t think they had. That was the number one thing,” says Chang.

“It’s a risk to sign up for something like that, but we had such a good time with everyone,” Teigen tells PEOPLE. “I was most excited when I heard from people that I might see in passing a lot at dinners here and there or cocktails or whatever. But to actually be able to sit and enjoy a meal with people, you really get to see another side of them and everyone lets their guard down and opens up and that makes it really special.”

Teigen, Chang and Booster agree that the guests who made them laugh the most were Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney, who joined the trio at Pizzeria Bianco for the premiere.

“I think they were both so honest,” Booster tells PEOPLE. “They were also friends with Dave and are friends with Chris Bianco, the owner of Bianco’s Pizzeria. So they felt very comfortable at that table, and we drank wine and felt relaxed.” “To me, they’re kind of the presidents and first ladies of LA,” Teigen says. “I think anyone who knows them as a couple just loves them both very much. They’re so cool and he’s met everyone in the whole world, but he’s not jaded or weird.”

“I think it was great that the audience saw how funny Molly Kimmel really is,” Chang adds. “Maybe she’s the funnier Kimmel.”

The show promises that “no subject is off limits” during the group’s candid conversations, and Teigen says she could have gone “a lot more crazy” if she knew nothing was on the table.

Booster says it’s not his style to avoid personality.

“It’s not really my way of working as a person,” he explains. “And it felt like the stakes were very low, I mean in a different way than for Chrissy and Dave because a lot of these people are their friends and peers and celebrities. And I am me. And so I am a social detective.”

“I’m interested in people and I want to know the details,” he adds. “And I think the personal stuff is a lot more interesting than the bulls— that you get stuck on at parties where it’s like, “What are you doing? Where are you from?’ It’s like, ‘Let’s move on. We have a 45-minute show. So let’s get to the point. Tell me about your first smoke.'”

When it comes to their favorite food in the show, all three lean salty.

Teigen’s most memorable meal was a dish consisting of tomatoes, peaches, basil and sesame oil at Chang’s Butlerdom. Booster was partial to the chicken wings at the Korean-American restaurant Yangban, which he says are the best he’s ever had. And Chang liked the steak tartare at the Ethiopian restaurant Meals By Genet.

Chang says their goal was to include “narratives from a culinary standpoint that may not be well-known to audiences.”

He also wanted to show that “LA is one of the best food cities in the world and it’s extremely diverse.”

“It’s also very big and we’ve barely, barely scratched the surface,” he adds. “So I think what we wanted to show was LA, from the highest altitude, something like that [two-Michelin-starred restaurant] Providence, and everything in between, will be a wonderful place. So just go out and explore and eat with your friends. And I think that was the genesis of the show when Chrissy and I gave birth to the idea many years ago.”

Teigen says that despite living in LA for 15 years, she’s only heard of the two restaurants they visited.

“Knowing that and then thinking about what else is out there is so intriguing and so exciting to me,” she says.

Booster admits he came into the show not knowing much about food — so he hopes it will make dining out less intimidating for others.

“You see a Michelin star and you say, ‘Oh, that’s not going to be for me. It will be too complicated,’ he says. “But I think every restaurant, whether it was a Michelin star or a small restaurant in Fairfax, was so good, but also affordable. And I think that’s the beauty of food.”

Chrissy and Dave have dinner out premieres January 24th at 10pm ET on Freeform and airs on Hulu the following day.
