David Foster’s Daughter Defends Him Against Claim He ‘Abandoned’ His Older Children for 2-Year-Old Son Rennie

David Foster’s daughter defends him against criticism that he “abandoned” his older children.

On Friday, the music producer (74) shared a video on Instagram of his two-and-a-half-year-old son Rennie drumming along to Michael Jackson’s hit “Rock with You.” Comments on the post were full of praise for Rennie’s musical talent, but one Instagram user took the opportunity to criticize his parenting.

“Lol!!!! He’s a dad…..he also has daughters (he abandoned them) older than me,” the user wrote in a reply to someone else.

Foster’s daughter Amy S. Foster responded to the comment, defending her father.

“Hi….I’m a daughter…absolutely no quitter,” Amy, 50, wrote and tagged the user.

“I literally talked to my dad five minutes ago,” she continued. “Are you standing up for us?”

Amy admonished the person because she saw a video of a boy drumming and decided to turn it into something negative.

“All you have to do is look at the comments and all of Rennie’s sisters will chime in with compliments… We’re awesome,” she continued.

“We love our dad. Our dad loves us and we love how our dad is with Rennie,” she added.

Rennie is David’s only son and only child with his current wife Katharine McPhee, whom he married in 2019.

“It’s different again at this point in my life,” said the Grammy-winning producer. “Neither better nor worse, just different. I’m still working, I’m still not much, but maybe my time is a little more precious because I have more runway behind me than now in front of me.”

In a separate interview with PEOPLE in 2020 before Rennie’s birth, David said he regrets the parenting mistakes he made with his five daughters — Amy, Allison Jones, 53, Sara Foster, 42, Erin Foster, 41, and Jordan Foster, 37.

“I missed a lot because I didn’t raise them,” he admitted. “Geography was really hard. It was my doing and I regret it, but it was what it was and it couldn’t be changed. So I did the best I could, which was pretty imperfect at times. Plus, I’m so radio. I mean, I’ve made a ton of music in my life.”
