David Harbour Calls Stranger Things Series Finale 'The Best' Episode, Reveals the Cast Was 'Uncontrollably Sobbing'

David Harbor has given his stamp of approval Stranger Things series finale.

Harbor dropped a bit of information regarding the upcoming fifth and final season Stranger Things on Happy Sad Confused the podcast’s 10th anniversary celebration in New York City on Thursday, October 17th.

The 49-year-old actor, who portrays Jim Hopper on the hit Netflix series, told host Josh Horowitz and the crowd that the cast recently read the final episode of Season 5.

“Look, I’m very close to the show, so I have very strong opinions,” he began. “And it might not match yours if you’re a fan of the show.”

“I am an actor in the series. So I see the nuts and bolts,” he said before admitting that “sometimes [he’ll] get really mad” at what he thinks is a “bad episode” or a season he “didn’t like”.

“I can be very critical of this play,” he admitted to the crowd. However, he revealed this in episode 8 of season 5: “They landed the plane and it’s the best episode they’ve ever done.”

“At the end of this episode when we were reading it – just us reading it – about halfway through, people started crying,” he said. “Then for the last 20 minutes it was just uncontrollable crying, waves of different people. Noah Schnapp is my favorite,” he joked beforehand, mimicking Schnapp’s sobs.

“I think part of it is the fact that those kids, that was their childhood,” he said of Millie Bobby Brown, now 20, Finn Wolfhard, 21, Gaten Matarazzo, 22, Caleb McLaughlin, 23, and Schnapp, 20. “Like, they started the show when they were 11 and 12, and we’re reading here [the finale].” (When the series premiered in July 2016, Brown was 11, Wolfhard 12, Matarazzo 13, McLaughlin 14 and Schnapp 11.)

“It’s 10 years later, and we’re examining that idea, and it’s so well executed and so beautiful,” he notes, before admitting that he “was totally prepared” not to tell the audience. “It’s such a great episode and it’s such a great season. You’ll love it,” he concluded.

Stranger Things Season 5: All about the long-awaited final season

In May 2022, Harbor said Diversity that he knows how the series ends and “it’s quite touching and quite beautiful”.

However, Netflix has yet to reveal the official plot for season 5, it will likely follow the Hawkins children as they try to defeat Vecna ​​once and for all now that the Upside Down has invaded their town.
