David Koch, a beloved Sunrise co-host, has announced his departure from the morning programme Sunrise. The character known as Kochie has opted to leave the show after an astonishing 21 years, leaving behind a legacy that will be adored by millions of people.
The host, who has broadcast a record 16,000 hours of live TV across more than 5300 shows and roughly 50,000 interviews, will leave the Sunrise desk in two weeks after having held the record for the longest tenure in Australian breakfast television hosting.
Kochie added, “I have enjoyed every second of my time at Sunrise, and I’m extremely pleased of what we’ve accomplished over the previous 21 years.
“I’ve had the good fortune to go on a lot of adventures, get to know a lot of amazing people, and witness a lot of history being made. The best job in the entire world, in fact.
“Working with the incredible Sunrise team, especially Nat, Beretts, and Dave Walters who have been with me for almost the whole time on the show, is what I’ll miss the most.
“I estimate that I have spent more time with them than with my family, and it has been a complete joy. The Sunrise viewers who have given me energy each and every day will be missed. I’ve also valued the Seven Network’s support for letting me be who I am, for being understanding when I mess up, which happens more frequently than I’d like to admit, and for their ongoing encouragement and respect,” he continued.
It’s time for me to work regular hours so that Libby and I can have a little more freedom to enjoy our growing family, travel, and concentrate on our family business interests in Pinstripe Media and the Ausbiz business channel. I know I’ll miss it terribly when it’s over.
