Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert prove that every good love story needs a little adventure!
With only markers and index cards, Erbert, 29, gave her husband a Valentine’s Day surprise. The dancer captured the day in a fun Instagram video that showed Hough, 38, choosing between two cards facing opposite sides to determine his holiday outfits, dinner, activities and more.
The video begins with Hough choosing where to eat breakfast and what to wear in the morning. After they go out for breakfast in casual clothes, he chooses a walk in the park and shopping for their afternoon activity.

Their day ends with going out to dinner and watching a wedding video in the same sweaters.
Erbert explained that she wanted to have a day focused on “intention” amid her ongoing recovery from an emergency craniectomy and subsequent surgery for a skull hematoma in December 2023.
“I did a fun little Valentine’s Day date adventure! Derek and I always spend a lot of time together, and even more so over the past few months.. But I really wanted to focus on the purpose and meaning of the day – spending quality time with my husband (more I’m always not used to saying that 🫠) and being thankful for the unique and special love we share. ♥️,” Erbert captioned the post.

Fans wrote about their relationship in the comments. One wrote: “Forget Travis [Kelce] and Taylor [Swift]! This is a couple I’m in love with ❤️❤️.” Another commented: “This is SO gorgeous! You two are SO beautiful! Plus, I’m totally going to steal your idea…..hahaha!”
The video follows Erbert’s post on Wednesday showing more photos of important moments from the beginning of their relationship in 2015.
The two married in an outdoor ceremony in Monterey County, California in August 2023, with approximately 106 guests.

“We’re in a redwood forest, but we got married right in front of this mother tree that’s surrounded by all these smaller trees. They drop all the seeds, and they spring up like an army of children to protect the mother. The symbolism of it was beautiful. Here we are, planting our seeds to grow our family,” Erbert told PEOPLE about the meaning behind their wedding venue.
Earlier this week, Hough said Party tonight that he is “amazed” by his wife’s resilience over the past few months.
“She’s amazing. When I married her, I knew she was strong, but I didn’t realize how strong she really was until now. I’m just really in awe of her every day. She’s amazing. She really is a miracle, and I don’t throw that word around lightly, but she it really is,” he said.

The Dancing with the stars judge will continue his Symphony of Dance tour on April 16 in Tampa, Florida. It is unclear whether Erbert, a well-known dancer, will join the tour due to her ongoing recovery.
