Devin Terrell was born on Friday, October 23, 1992 (27 years old in 2019) in Long Beach, California. At the age of five, he moved with his family to Perth, Western Australia. He attended Ringwood High School in Perth. He studied drama at Edith Cowan University in Perth, where he also taught acting. In 2013, he graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art of Australia.

- To play the role of Barry, Devin learned to do things with his left hand. He also worked with a dialect coach. Speaking about this, he said,
I learned to write and play basketball with my left hand. I was born with an Australian accent, so my excellent dialect coaches Charlotte Fleck and Vikram [Gandhi],help [me] to distinguish accents.”
