Keith was arrested and booked into the Madison County Jail without incident. Keith was released at 5:34 pm the same day after his arrest and initial investigation. He emphasized that he left the Walmart after using the self-checkout. However, he did not pay for the $20 set of headphones in his shopping cart. Following the comments, several individuals chimed in on the scenario and said that they sometimes forget to pay for products at self-service checkouts. Keith’s friends and well-wishers rallied behind him following the shoplifting charge.

Devyn Keith was charged with one count of theft of property – theft of items valued at $500 or less following the shoplifting incident and his arrest. Under Alabama law, the misdemeanor is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $6,000 fine. Councilman Keith is now facing new theft charges, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office has already issued a warrant for the Council member’s arrest.
According to the spokeswoman, Keith was expected to come forward on his own after the second order. A District 1 council member is facing four misdemeanor charges for allegedly shoplifting multiple products from a Walmart store. The case was initially handled by the Huntsville Police Department. To eliminate any conflict of interest or impression, it has now been transferred to the Madison County District Attorney’s office. Devyn Keith’s attorney, John Taylor, said he had no comment at this time.
