Dewald Brevis was born on Tuesday, April 29, 2003, in Johannesburg, South Africa (age 19 in 2022). He attended Afrikaanse Hoer Seunskool in Pretoria, which was also the alma mater of De Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Jacques Rudolph, Heino Kuhn, Neil Wagner and Kruger van Wyk. Dewald revealed in an interview that he has always been a cricket enthusiast and started playing cricket in his backyard with his brother and father.

Dewald Brevis is a right-handed batsman and leg-spin bowler who has played for teams such as Mumbai Indians, Northern Under-13s and South Africa Under-19s. He was signed by Northern Team in April 2021 ahead of the 2021-22 domestic cricket season in South Africa. He made his debut for the South Africa Under-19 team on 8 October 2021 in the 2021-22 CSA Provincial T20 Knockout Tournament. Scored 46 off 25 balls with a strike rate of 184, including 2 fours and 4 sixes. In November 2021, he was selected for the South Africa squad for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in West Indies. He put in an exemplary performance in the match, scoring two centuries and three half-centuries, two of which were 3 and 4 runs short of a century. He scored a total of 506 runs in six innings, surpassing Shikhar Dhawan’s record of 505 runs in seven innings. He also managed to take seven wickets. Although South Africa could only reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, Breivis was named the best player of the tournament. He represented the Titan Cubs in the CSA Cubs Week in February 2022, scoring 0, 25, 41*, 58 and 62 for an average of 46.50. The IPL auction begins nine days after his final innings in the World Cup. His base price is Rs. 20 lakhs and was purchased by Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore.
Before the IPL, Breves had played only 8 T20 matches in his career, scoring 204 runs and 5 wickets. Breves, who was not part of Mumbai Indians’ first two matches in the eleven, made his IPL debut on April 6, 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Pune. He scored 29 points on 19 balls. He took the wicket of Virat Kohli in his first IPL match, after which he smashed 49 runs off 25 balls against Punjab Kings. In a match between RCB and Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022, Breves dismissed Virat Kohli on his first IPL delivery and allowed Virat to score just Missing the first 50 games of IPL 2022 by 2 runs. Devalder bowled a high ball that hit Virat’s pads. The on-field umpire declared him out, after which Virat used DRS but was tagged in vain. This angered Kohli and he expressed his anger by hitting the ground with his bat. This caused a stir among the media and fans. However, Virat met Brevis after the game and said:

Brevis has been a fan of AB de Villiers since he calls himself Baby AB. Brevis and AB de Villiers are not only similar in appearance, but also in their playing stance and gameplay. Brevis revealed in an interview,
AB de Villiers has always been one of my role models; growing up, I [used to] Watch him play”
AB de Villiers once visited the school in Brevis, which happened to be AB de Villiers’ alma mater. Brevius heard him talk attentively about his experiences and little anecdotes. When AB was about to leave, Brevis plucked up the courage to ask for his phone number, and to his surprise, AB gave it to him. Considering Brevis’ passion for cricket, AB decided to teach him the tips and tricks of cricket. He also helped Brevis improve his game by doing net drills together. According to reports, AB often went to Brevis’ house to help him practice. AB went from being his idol to being his mentor. Brevis said in an interview,

Interestingly, Brevis’ SA U19 jersey also has the number “17” printed on the back, which was the number worn by de Villiers when he made his ODI debut for the Proteas in 2005. In an interview, he revealed,
