Did U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Snub Prince Harry in His Christmas Video?

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Christmas video may have been misinterpreted.

On Monday, Sunak shared a humorous video on social media showing him in the rare situation of being alone at 10 Downing Street, the official residence and office of the British Prime Minister. Taking advantage of the situation, he pets Larry the cat, plays a game of knocking over juice cans in the hallway, watches Dwarf and toasted marshmallows. But then the phone rang.

“Uh, press office number 10,” Sunak said hesitantly answering the call. He then raised his eyebrows and said, “Harry, you have the wrong number,” before hanging up.

Some social media users believed he was referring to Prince Harry, who stepped down from his role as a working member of the royal family and moved to California with wife Meghan Markle in 2020.

However, it is unlikely that Sunak was trying to troll the Duke of Sussex. Instead, most believe Sunak was referring to Harry Cole, the British journalist who wrote about the leak of the prime minister’s personal phone number. (Given that Sunak has a weekly meeting with King Charles, I doubt he would want to make such a joke.)

Following tradition, the royal family went to church on Christmas Day. King Charles and Queen Camilla lead the way, followed closely by Kate Middleton and Prince William with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Meghan (42) and Prince Harry (39) spent Christmas privately, and in 2017 and 2018 they celebrated it with the royal family.

The 2017 holiday outing came as a surprise as it came just a month after the couple announced their engagement, but in years past significant others didn’t join the royal celebration until after their nuptials.

In Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghanpublished last year, the Duchess of Sussex recounted her first Christmas with the royal family.

“I remember the first Christmas at Sandringham so vividly,” Meghan said. “I call my mom, and she says, ‘How are you?’ And I said, ‘Oh my God, that’s amazing.’ ”

“It’s like the big family I’ve always wanted,” she added. “And there was constant movement, energy and fun.”

At dinner, Meghan sat next to “H’s grandfather,” Prince Philip.

“And I just thought it was so wonderful. And I said, ‘Oh, we were talking, and it was so great. And I was talking about this and I was talking about this,'” she recalled, though she said Prince Harry later informed that she “had his bad ear,” meaning Prince Philip likely couldn’t hear parts of their conversation.

Meghan said: “I thought, ‘Oh, well, I thought it went really well.’ ”

After marrying in May 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan went to Sandringham again that December for a traditional royal Christmas. At the time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were expecting their first child, and their son, Prince Archie, was born in May 2019.
