Sean “Diddy” Combs allegedly did not know that Casandra “Cassie” Ventura had access to surveillance footage of him physically assaulting her in a 2016 hotel incident.
After CNN released the disturbing video on May 17, Combs’ former security chief, Roger Bonds, gave an interview to Piers Morgan uncensored about his knowledge of the script and what he thinks about the music mogul’s apology.
“He knew those cameras were there, you know? But of course, as we’ve heard, he went back to the hotel and paid to get the footage — but he didn’t know, what Cassie said in her complaint, that they gave her a copy of the footage as well,” Bonds said.

According to Ventura’s major civil lawsuit, which was filed in November 2023 and quickly settled, the “Me & U” singer allegedly paid Combs $50,000 to the InterContinental Hotel for the newly opened hallway footage.
In a video posted to Instagram on May 19, Combs apologized and said he takes “full responsibility” for the “inexcusable” behavior. However, Bonds isn’t sure how sorry he is.
“When you go through life just paying your way out, I really feel like he wasn’t sorry about that. Yeah, maybe he’s sorry now. He’s sorry he got caught,” Combs’ former bodyguard said.
“If it was a one-off incident, then I would say accept his apology. But I think in that apology he said what he thought people wanted to hear,” Bonds added.

A representative for Combs did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
In surveillance footage taken at the since-closed InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, Combs grabs Ventura by the neck and throws her to the ground before kicking her and grabbing her purse and suitcase. He then kicked her again, began dragging her into the room, released her and later threw an object at Ventura before leaving.
Ventura described an incident that matches the altercation seen on video in her lawsuit, which accuses Combs of rape, sex trafficking and domestic violence.

The lawsuit states that in 2016, Combs “became extremely intoxicated and punched Ms. Ventura in the face, bruising her eye” while at the hotel.
“After he fell asleep, Ms. Ventura attempted to leave the hotel room, but when she exited, Mr. Combs woke up and began screaming at Ms. Ventura,” the lawsuit alleges. “He followed her into the hotel corridor while shouting at her. He grabbed her and then picked up glass vases in the corridor and threw them at her, causing the glass to shatter around them as she ran towards the lift to escape.”

According to the lawsuit, Ventura was able to get into the elevator and she took a cab to her apartment.
“After realizing that her escape would only make Mr. Combs angrier at her and completely stuck in his vicious cycle of abuse, Ms. Ventura returned to the hotel with the intention of apologizing for running away from her abuser,” the complaint claims. . “When she returned, hotel security staff made her get back in a taxi and go to her apartment, suggesting they had seen security footage of Mr. Combs beating Ms. Ventura and throwing glass at her in the hotel hallway.”
IHG Hotels previously told PEOPLE in a statement about the video: “This hotel is no longer managed by IHG and we do not have access to any previous records or footage of the incident.”

Ventura’s attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, also told PEOPLE in a statement about the video, “The harrowing video only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and strength Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.” light.”
Combs’ apology came in the form of a video posted on Instagram with the caption, “I’m really sorry.”
“It’s so hard to think about the darkest times in your life,” he said. “Sometimes you have to do it. I was screwed. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I’m not apologizing. My behavior in that video is inexcusable.”
The Bad Boy Records founder continued, “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”
“Appalled. I was appalled when I did it, I’m appalled now. I went and sought professional help, went to therapy, went to rehab. I had to ask God for his grace and mercy. I’m so sorry, but I I am committed to being a better man every day,” Combs added.
He concluded the statement by asserting that he is “not asking for forgiveness” and that he is “truly sorry”.
